We will be driving from Dingle to Galway. From what I've read in the guidebooks it seems like Adare, Ennis and Doolin might be good places to stop for a night but I would like to find out your advice. Maybe there is another place you would recommend. Thank you in advance for taking the time to help out.

We looked at the medieval banquet at Bunratty Castle and folk park. Rick Steves was down on Bunratty but apparently likes the medieval banquet at a place near Galway, Dunguaire Castle. What do you think?

You don't actually have to stop over anywhere since it is only about a 4 hour drive. If you simply want to see something en route Doolin would be good -- but it also would be a 4 hour drive so doesn't really 'breal your journey - just adds to it.

First task, find a decent unbiased less opinionated guide book. Second task is a place between Dingle and Galway.

Yes to Adare, Limerick and Bunratty as worth a visit(as is Listowel when leaving the Dingle peninsula), Ennis would be my choice for an overnight location. If you take the Ferry over the Shannon then maybe consider visiting Loop Head and staying in Kilkee or Lahinch. Doolin like Dingle is ideal if you want to be a tourist amongst tourists. The Castle Banquet is Dunguaire Castle, Kinvara. Yes Kinvara is a good place to overnight just short of Galway.

Dungory Bed & Breakfast is a short distance from Dunguaire Castle if you drink a lot of mead. I have only stopped there during the day not for the banquet.I like Lahinch a lot and and Doolin. I think the Dunguaire Castle is not as well known and sees less people than Bunratty. There is a lot to see and do on the way from Dingle to Galway and it would easily fill your day. Do take the ferry over the Shannon.

I have attended the Dunguaire Castle banquet although it was many years ago. We really enjoyed it and were not packed in shoulder to shoulder and hip to hip as at the other two castle banquet venues. Our B&B for Kinvara (or Kinvarra) doesn't seem to exist any longer, at least under the name Corranroo.

Highly recommend Loop Head.

As for castle banquets, I have been to all three--Dunguaire,Bunratty and Knappogue. My favorite is Bunratty to which I have been several times and enjoyed. Perhaps it was the company with whom I was traveling who made it fun. Yes, it may be a bit touristy, but then was I not a tourist as well?

Having attended all three castle banquets, Bunratty more than once, my favorite is the Irish Night in the Corn Barn!
Now I will have "The Wild Rover" stuck in my head for the rest of St. Patrick's Day!!
