Where to sleep in (or around ) Munich
 

Hi !

We,re gonna 4 nights in Munich in July. We're looking for a place to sleep the four of us ( 2 adults and 2 young kids of 4 and 8 years old). There's not much apartement on Home Away for Munich ( that's where we got our lodging for Berlin, Dreden and Nuremberg).

We wont something that would cost 150 Euro or less. We dont have to be in city center. We want to visit old town, the Deutches museum and do a daytrip to Garmisch. We could stay outside town if we can easily access the train (we wont have a car for the whole trip).

So if anyone could suggest us neighborhoods or small town not too far from Munich (which, we hope, would cost less than Munich Itself !) it would be appreciated !

They only have double rooms, but each room will go for € 94.00, which I know is above your budget, but... 1 parent and 1 kid per room, and the hotel is fantastic. I stayed here with my family last summer, and it was fantastic. the rooms are a bit small by US standards, but very clean, and the bathrooms were excellent (great showers!).
The reason I mention this more expensive option is the location. You'll find an easy walk to the Marienplatz, several food options nearby, and easy access to the tram and U-bahn. I'm hopeful that the time you save in getting around will justify the extra cost.

For nom I know that Derag Livinghotel show no avaibility for my dates (july 25 to july 29).

Not being in the same room is not an option for us. If it was a good price maybe but for 188 Euro we should be able to find something that allows us to be in the same place !

Have you looked at booking.com and similar for your dates?

This is Munich, not cheap so go with AirB&B or look for family rooms in guest houses.

You will have to take the sbahn or ubahn to get most places though because for that price your aren't going to be central.

We like the Residence Inn Munich Ost, short walk to the Munich Ost train station.

They have family units that accommodate four.

Check out the Uhland Hotel, next to the october fest grounds. I think they have family rooms in an old converted mansion that is within walking distance of the Zentrum. Hotel prices rise and fall with demand and I don't know if there are things going on in town at that time.

Pension Lindner is full.

I've contacted all Motel one hotel we could find in Munich here's waht they offer me :

1) 2 rooms because of some regultions they cant allows 4 people in the same room

2) One room, the 4 years old sleep with us and the 8 years old sleep in another bed (or sleeping chair is not clear). Good deal since it's the one most in the center (Sedlinger Tor). They charge 94 Euro by night. They also told me (after I ask them why they allows 4 eople and other one wont) that we have to sign a discharge if there's an emrgency (that bug us a bit).

3) A family room in Motel one Munchen Sued for 119 Euro by night. They told us that that kind of room is only a bit larger than their standard room.

What would you do ?

I would get the two rooms.

I travelled throughout Europe with my family as a kid, and my sister and I always slept in a connecting room with the parents in the other room. Remember, there is an open door between the two rooms, so you are closer than your bedrooms at home.

Remember how small European hotel rooms are -- and, yes, because of fire regulations, they cannot overload the rooms. I've found that so many hotels charge per person, not per room, so the cost isn't significantly better when you're all crammed into one room.

I really wouldn't put my children at risk in a room that isn't designed and can't handle that many people.

We often ended up one parent sleeping with one child in 2 separate rooms. Not perfect for the sex life, but the kids loved it actually.

2 separates room is out of question. Many hotels in Europe don't have a communicating door, and it would be something not easy with our child (we know them !).

I forgot to mention two others possibilities:

1) Motel one Munich OST: Family room (20 square meters room instead of 16, still small, and a sofa bed for the kids)= 99Euro by night

2) Novotel Suites Schwabing. Theer's bed for everyone in the room ,the room is larger (30 square meters) and have a saml fridge and a microwave, but is a bit less conveniant to go to the center. The price is 103 Euro.

lol, chosebinne. My family and I found that many hotels in Europe DO have a communicating door. Our experiences obviously differ a lot.

Communicating door or not, is not somtehing we are looking for. Don't tell me the price is the same it,s not true. I can't found anything lower that 140 euro for two rooms, I can get one family room in Motel one OST for 99 Euro.

I didn’t say the cost is the same; I said it wasn't significantly better. The price difference you quote is only 40 € different, or 10€ per person. And that difference could also be in the location or with/without breakfast.

We used to stay in small guesthouses and pensions, and the difference was even less.

I have never been to Germany, but I guess it would be easy to sleep around Munich.
