Where to rent a car in Venice
We'll be flying into Venice in September and will stay there for 3 nights and then rent a car to drive to Tuscany/Umbria. Where would a good place in Venice be to rent a car?

You can't rent a car in the center of Venice - there are no streets - only canals - that's the whole point of Venice.
I believe you can rent a car at the Piazzele Roma - where the giant garage is at the end of the causeway from the mainland. But you are much better off just organizing it from the point of view of the rental company - once you find the one with the best rates they'll tell you where the nearest office is. |
Good morning, Most car rental agencies have offices at the Pza Roma. Would suggest this time of year to have reservations made ahead of time. Richard of La?Grange Park, Il..

A recent post discussed two Venice rental options: Piazzele Roma or the airport. To rent at Piazzele Roma, ther was a 15 euro surcharge compared to the airport. However you and your companions would probably spend more than that to get to the airport.

Italy 4: By all means make your car rental plans before your leave the US. Much less expensive than walking into an agency in Europe to rent.
I would recommend (as would many Fodorites)contacting AutoEurope to make your arrangements. They are a brokerage with offices in Maine and arrange rentals with many companies. We have been very satisfied with our dealings with them in both France and Italy. We dropped our rental car in Venice at Piazzale Roma and imagine that would be the logical place for you to pick up. Would save expense of getting to airport. |
Thanks to all of you for your input. It's been a great help!

Italy_Four,
We had similar plans for our recent trip in late April. Before leaving for the trip, we made reservations through Auto Europe for pick up at the Europcar location at Piazzale Roma. The day we were leaving Venice, we took the vaporetto to the P. Roma stop and walked less than ten minutes to the large garage where Europcar was located to pick up the car. |
