Where to purchase wine labels

Hello. We are planning a trip to Tuscany & Umbria in October. We love wine labels and would like to know if and where we would be able to purchase them. For those of you who have done winery tours in the Tuscany area, are the wine labels available for sale along with the wines? If so, can you suggest some wineries? Thank you for your help.

How very odd. Isn't the usual thing to drink the wine and then take the label off to keep if you want it ? :-)

Hi kermit,
I have read about people who collect wine labels and they send off requests to wineries and get them in the mail. So you might get lucky in Italy and they will give you some when you do a tour.
good luck..Scarlett

But isn't it cheating to have the label if you haven't drunk the wine ? :-)

Scarlett Sep 19th, 2005 10:32 PM

That is what my husband would say :D

It is cheating in my mind too. What's the point if you have not drunk it?

Thanks for your help Scarlett. My husband would drink the wine. I collect the labels. It's sometimes hard to remove the labels without wrinkling them. So we're hoping they would sell the labels when we buy wine.

I have never noticed wine labels for sale at the wineries I have visited in Tuscany and Umbria. But I wasn't looking for them, so perhaps it is possible. Wouldn't hurt to ask.

It might be weird to collect labels you never drank but in my younger days I collected Playboys and only in my imagination did I.....
Anyway will museums be closed in Florence during the Christmas period? I posted this question a week ago but cant find my posting and therefore cant find if there is a reply

kermit - you may want to try and contact Hildi who works on Trading Spaces as a designer.

One time she pasted over 6,000 wine labels all over someone's kitchen walls and that someone happened to be a preacher. Maybe she can remember where :)she got them.

Thanks Elaine, I tried all of the key words in the posting but didn't think of just putting my user id in. Kenn

Hi KBKB, just putting your Fodor's nick in the search engine will not necessarily pull up all your threads and post. It is better to click on your name next to the Welcome sign which is at the left hand top corner of the Fodor's screen. Then you should be able to find all your threads and post.

kermit, good luck with your wine label quest. Personally I have never seen wine labels for sale but then again I have not specifically looked for them. But my thinking is that wineries may not want to sell or hand out labels that have not been put on their wine bottles just in case someone wants to put them on a bottle of wine that is not the wineries wine? Just a thought. But if your Italian is good enough, or if there is an English speaking person at the winery maybe you can beg, borrow or steal just one wine label from each winery if you can explain you collect them. Best wishes to you. You are probably in Italy as of now. Hope you are having a wonderful time.

Hi guys. Just got back from Italy and really enjoyed the countryside. I have great news. I was able to get some labels from wineries we visited. One particular winery even had them in a box for people to take. They didn't seem to have a problem with the request when we bought wine:-) Thanks for your help!

Hey kermit, that is great!
Is there a trip report?
aside from the wineries ? LOL
