Again, Pq is dead on - was wondering where OP was ...
|
surprised the word 'troll' has not come up - I'm not saying it but surprised others, except one hinting at it, have not said it in a post that could certainly fulfill that designation - especially since never came back - to at least say Thanks y'all!
I don't know or care but if the OP is around please give more info - you in Milan for just a day or more? Makes a crucial difference as to responses. |
@ colduphere: I actually do know someone who did that -- and worse, the ring had been the man's mother's, and the mother's mother's before that. I was never quite able to see that bride-who-wasn't with a generous heart after learning that. That she offered to sell it back to the family for twice its (substantial) market value :-O didn't "make it right" from my perspedctive. I'm fond of treasuring the differences between people, but that was a step too far for me.
|
The OP doesn't at all read 'troll' IMO. He registered to post his question -- and MANY newbies just assume they will get e-mail notifications when there are responses.
|
I really like the idea of proposing on top of the Duomo in February. There won't be many tourists and the place is really dream-like. Turin or Verona are also wonderful cities to visit. Don't stress the trip: make it as romantic as possible. Make her feel special and secure in the knowledge that you are committing to a relationship because you are totally in love with her.
Ah, to be in love again..... |
By the way, I've missed seeing Cold on the lounge. Glad to know he's doing alright.

Yes probably but we all are talking to ourselves as the OP then will never ever see any our the many creative responses. Such a pity! |
thanks for all the advice! i narrowed it down down to lake como and dumo. i didnt know i would get email notifications. thanks again for the people who helped me and thank you for those who were completely useless. :)
|
Best wishes, jerinzachariah87, and please let us know what you decide and how it goes!
|
and she wont refuse. Sheesh didnt know alot of you guys had this problem. If you have a doubt she will refuse, please dont propose.
|
So, let me see if I’ve got this right: (a) You failed to read the terms of use for Fodor’s when you signed up – or you would have realized that you would not get notifications, (b) you didn’t provide us with all the relevant information, including the, uh, potentially relevant fact that you are certain that your intended will accept your proposal, (c) when you finally checked back, you apparently didn’t recognize that YOUR failure to do so in a timely way may have contributed to some rather off-topic comments, (d) then act as though some anyone who would propose without assurance of acceptance has a "problem", and (e) offer advice to those who might want to propose in the future – without knowing anything about them or their circumstances or the potential partners involved, etc. Did I get that right? If so, then I think my best wishes might be more needed than I thought. ;-)
|
I will @Kja thank you. are you from the area?
|
I don't know the area to which you refer, jerinzachariah87, but I'm pretty sure that we are not from the same "area" in any meaningful sense.
|
Kja
Fantastic way to start a day by reading your posts. Zac. Good luck. Glad to see complete strangers could be of help for one of the most important moments in your life. |
JERINZACHARIAH87,
I think it is thoughtful of you to try to make your proposal really memorable and special. Best wishes to you and your future wife. I think Venice is one of the most romantic place in Europe. |
Jerin
I think Europe would be a great place for a proposal. If I were you I'd look at photos of the places you're going as people usually post pics of the most beautiful places. And you have to ignore the frumpy, old grumps on this site. You can get a lot of good advice here and just have to ignore the rest. Have fun! |
Venice--I'd go farther than cafegoddess and say one of the most romantic places in the world.
|
Lake Como in February can mean wet cool weather but Venice is yes the most romantic place in the world or one of them -and Carnivale is going on too = rent a gondola and go on a remote quiet canal and serenaded by lovely music - perfect setting. Como is a lot closer but funky weather.
Do you just have one day to do this all and get back to Milan? |
Pal: >>Such a decision IMO should be done by sitting down together and discussing marriage as a mutual proposal<<
I'm going to take a wild guess and say you don't write Valentine's Day cards for a living. |
"If you have a doubt she will refuse, please dont propose."
I looked at it the other way around. If there was any chance she'd say yes I would ask. Glass 1/4 full thinking. Kleeblatt ((Y)) |
@ Woinparis: :-)
@ colduphere: ((Y)) |
I hate the small restaurants in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele as they are overpriced, but I guess that in winter one of them could be the best place in Milan to propose. I can think some other places (for example the gardens at Porta Venezia or Bellagio) but they could be quite cold in February.

BINGO! I just see this all as a two-way street - why can't a woman propose to a guy and ask these questions? Not criticizing OP because he probably has done that and she said yes and go ahead and surprise me- but just in general why always the man should get this pleasure - I rather the couple sit down and both think of where the cherished proposal may be so don't think I don't see the romance in it all. Again not addressing this to OP but to you in explanation of why if I did write Valentine's cards for a living in the way you expect. Cheers and may the OP have a great proposal - lots of good ideas even though Milan and Lake Como in February would be amongst my very last choices but I guess anyplace can be romantic- not sure from where OP is flying or traveling to Milan from- but if a long way just for one day I'd suggest other places. |
If you choose Lake Como, propose on the grounds on Villa Balbaniello. Take ferry from Bellagio to Lenno, then water taxi or walk to villa. Weather could be terrible- or nice.
|
do ferries run often in February? Maybe leave the choice until you see what the weather is like?
