Where to pick up rental car

We are about to rent a car for our June trip. We would like to take public transportation out of London, going toward Stonehenge, so we can get off on a stop outside London and have our car waiting there. Can anyone help me with how to do this? Many thanks!!

Joan,
Have you considered picking up the car at Heathrow Airport? The most logical place to pick up a car from which to travel on the Stonehenge is Salisbury, but I have been unable to find any information regarding rental companies operating in that city. Many, including AutoEurope and Kemwel, which usually offer the best rates, operate out of Bath, an alternative to a Heathrow pickup. You can reserve and book on line. Both AutoEurope and Kemwel have websites. It would be to your advantage to "shop" on line for best rates.

Joan,
Avis has a rental outlet in Bath and a couple of intriguing offers. Avis will provide you with a 2500 word itinerary featuring 10 to 20 places in the region to serve as suggestions so you may customize a route. The guides will be available April 1. Avis is also offering a 25% discount from its SuperValue non-prepaid rate. If you order the guide, you must book the rental at the same time. You must book at least 21 days in advance prior to leaving the U.S. Use the Avis Worldwide discount number AWD N917201 when ordering the intinerary and booking the rental.

Thanks so much. Do you think Auto Europe will be able to help me with a rental at Heathrow or Bath? I will also cal Avis to check out the offers. Again, thank you.

We've rented from both Hertz and Avis at Heathrow and Budget at Gatwick. I think it's easier to rent at an airport location as they have a wider selection of cars - this is particularly important if you really need an automatic (which we wanted and got with no problem).
