where to go next???

This is one of those light-hearted 'do a little dreaming' kinda questions. See, I'm a travel agent, and as motivation, I have this frame on my desk in which I keep a picture of the next place I want to go. Except, after recently having been to Germany, I can't decide what to put in next!! I've played around with Sicily, Corsica, Ireland, Singapore, New Zealand, Galapagos, etc... If you had such a frame, what would you put in it???

MademoiselleFifi Jun 19th, 2008 07:45 PM

I would need a pair of frames-- one for the old favorite I'll always revisit (Paris), and one for the next new place I want to see (Vienna).

Interesting. I do the same with my computer background screen. And I have the same problem deciding what to save as my background. There are so many places I want to go to! I've resolved it by changing my screen background fairly regularly, googling a placename, choosing a good picture, and saving it to "screen background". And yes, my alternations are pretty evenly spread between new places I want to go to, and old places I want to revisit!

Someone gave me a digital frame for my birthday. It's loaded with about 50 of my travel photos with classical Italian music playing as the slideshow shuffles through the shots (only vertical ones to fit the frame best).

I want to go everywhere -- places I been, places I've not been, but Italy and Greece keep playing my heartstrings. I enjoyed Lake Como enormously, but I didn't realize how much I enjoyed Tuscany until much after I returned home. It might have something to do with the pasta with cheese and honey (LOL). So, I dream about that month in a Paris apartment, trips back to Amsterdam and Brugge. Some day I must get to Croatia and Prague. So many places. That's why I check out this forum every day and live through others' trip reports when I can't travel myself. It's a long way from California to Europe.

Likewise it's a long way from Europe to California..and that is on my list again for a trip, but maybe not so very high.
Within Europe I would like to go Sicily, and to Sweden. Going back to Scotland or Wales would be great too.
Further away, back to the US - so much I haven't seen yet, plus friends to visit. Newfoundland, and on the other side of the country Vancouver.
But if I could only do one trip, and one only, I would go back to Africa. Tanzania would be great, but if I could spend longer there and combine several countries I would be a very happy bunny.

Going back to favourite places I guess it would be Ireland and Sicily. But that would be through another trip to Cornwall and Scotland. But then again we loved Africa,Vietnam and Cambodia. Actually really enjoyed everywhere we have been in Europe. Too hard too decide so I guess we will go to Slovenia and Croatia in August. Maybe then add those to the favoutites as well. So many places,so little time!

Fun idea! I would need lots of frames though, because there are so many places I want to visit. If I had to pick, I would choose Turkey, China or South Africa, as these are all at the top of my "must visit" list. Of course, Croatia would need a frame too, because I'm aching to go back.

abby and travelme:

What a great thing to puzzle over...
here in Hollywood, there is an old saying..."location, location, location"....may I offer two gems...
Chile and Portugal...both have met that test for us.

Unfortunately, haven't returned to Chile since '94, so all I have are some scanned pre-digital pix which I will post after album-izing them in my Picasa site. Chile is definitely a very scenic, friendly and exciting place to experience. The dollar remains comfortably strong, no less.

We were just in Portugal, a gem of a country, last month...it was my last remaining European location that I had not yet been ...for Roz, it was her first visit also. We were suitably smitten!

So, as the exceptionally reliable Bobthenavigator says, hopefully this will whet your appetites to fill up those frames:

Enjoy your happy dilemma!

note: my Picasa slide show tends to hang up every now and then...just go back to the album and the last pic, and re-hit "slide show"..otherwise, just select those you wish to see.

I'll put Italy or the French Riviera with Monte Carlo.
Why Italy?
Italy beacuse is one of the best beautiful country in the world...
Then Tuscany and Sicily.
The first one for wines and food.
The second one for sun and sea.

And Monte Carlo...
Why?
Monte Carlo is home of luxury. Is the most beautiful city in Europe and it is so exciting walk down the streets where in may takes place the wonderful GP of F1.
And then all the Riviera à la mode ...

Greeetings from these places!

Without knowing where you have and heaven't been - and what you like to do - and when youplan to go - it's very difficult to make suggestions.

What would you say if a customer came in and asked you this?

abbynicole27 Jun 20th, 2008 10:56 AM

ny - not necessarily asking for suggestions for myself, more curious what your choice would be. And if a customer asked me where they should go next, I would do the same thing you just mentioned - find out where they've been, what they enjoyed and didn't enjoy, etc.

I'm headed to Scandinavia next May for 10 days (cruise-Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Estonia, Poland & Norway) and then want to take another cruise to end in China. After that I will have gone to all the places I always wanted to visit... now, that will not stop me from traveling, it's just the rest will be gravy to me. I have a different question... why did you go to the places you did? For me, most of my childhood "dreams" of travel seem to have started in books... I loved Heidi as a child and always wanted to visit Switzerland (did), in high school I started my life long love of Agatha Christie and wanted to visit England (did plus named my first cat Agatha Christie), then along came James Herriot and I wanted to see York and Scotland (did), then The Sound of Music (I read the book, too) and I wanted to see Salzburg and Austria (did). I've been to other countries that I can't relate to certain books (Ireland, France, Netherlands, Italy) but most of the countries I can... What about everyone else??

abbynicole27 Jun 20th, 2008 03:15 PM

Hmmm, well France was a given, as I took French Immersion in school from Grade 6-9. Other than that, I believe I made my choices based mostly on pictures and reports from people who have been to the places. My first priority in choosing travel is picturesque landscapes, preferably combined with cute towns/beautiful architecture and good food =)
