Where to go in Paris for music and a drink...
This is a continuation of a thread that has been lost.
The Question was .. Where to go in Paris where one can listen to all kinds of music: soft rock, salsa, blues, jazz and classical. Not into the wild club scene or spending big bucks. Just want to go somewhere after dinner and listen to some good music with a couple of drinks. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Replies were: Author: Scarlett Date: 10/01/2003, 02:56 pm Message: The hotel La Villa has live jazz in their downstairs club la Villa. on rue Jacob. Friends love the Buddha Bar where they sit and people watch while having drinks. In the Latin Quarter thre are plenty of small smokey places to listen to music, unfortunately, I have lost most of my memory and do not remember any names! But the Caveau de la Huchette was a favorite of my friends who summer in Paris every year, jazz- on rue de la Huchette. New Morning, near Galleries Lafayette, on rue des Petites Ecuries, a true jazz venue. There was a place that you could listen to Latin music and do the tango but I forgot that one too ~weep~ That's about all I can think of! Hope this helps and more people can give you names and places to listen to cool music. Author: Scarlett Date: 10/01/2003, 02:59 pm Message: http://www.justsalsa.com/paris/ |
Rumor has it that Scarlett caused quite a wild scene dressed in a dazzling red dress at Le Casbah, on rue de la Forge-Royale.
I heard she paid big bucks to get the pictures seized prior to publication in a major French newspaper. The police report? Vanished under mysterious circumstances. |
Oh la~Degas, you have found me out ((F))

Scarlett, thanks for starting this one. Let's hope it doesn't disappear again.

We had some good beer and listened to a very talented duo at le Cluny Taverne, on rue de Harp, just off Blvd. St. Michel. Very casual, seemed to be frequented by locals (students?), but a mellow way to end a wonderful day.

Topping for Beatchick ((F))

For jazz lovers--Le Bilboquet at 13 rue St. Benoit. Doesn't open 'til afte 10 and you need to knock on the door so they know you want to come in. No cover...($, not clothes, sorry for those who would like otherwise).

Here's a few more I wanted to add that are gleaned from Thirza Vallois' "Romantic Paris".
For Old French Songs: Hotel Du Nord (p. 258) 102 quai de Jemmapes (22 euro) MUSIC Saturdays from 9pm (set menu w/wine & show) DINNER Served from 8pm Le Lapin Agile (p. 259) 22 rue des Saules, 75019 23 euro w/1 drink And Mimi already mentioned Caveau des Oubliettes, just wanted to mention they do Old French Songs!! :) For Jazz: La Closerie des Lilas (p. 252) 171 bd du Montparnasse, 75014 jazz until 1am Le Franc Pinot (pp. 112, 255) 1 quai de Bourbon (Ile St Louis) T-TH from 8:30pm F-Sa from 9:30pm (13-16 euro) closed August Sunday Brunch: 11:30am - 4pm (17 euro) |
taht's sad, that the closerie des Lilas has jazz. I love jazz, but that was once my favorite romantic restaurant.
|
Sorry, spelling police, my dyslexia reared its ugly head!
|
I think the Closerie des Lilas only has a jazz piano-bar type of thing, not a full jazz combo or anything. It still isn't quite the ambience I would want there, either, as it's not that big and it might make conversation difficult, but a lot of people are looking for piano bars, I guess.

Anyplace new for jazz?
|
In April, I spent a nice couple of hours after dinner at a small jazz club in the 6th called Le Bilboquet. No cover, close quarters, smoky, great music and EXPENSIVE drinks: 18 euros, whether you're drinking champagne or Coke. Not sure, but I think they serve dinner upstairs.
