Where to go in Norway: Lofoten or the South Western part
 

I'm planning a trip to Norway this summer for about 2 weeks (end of June - beg. of July). I would like to experience the beautiful Norwegian nature.

I'm considering either Lofoten in the North or the South Western part with the fjords etc.

What would you recommend? I guess both parts of Norway are worth visiting.

Yes, both areas are worth seeing. With two weeks you could do a week in each.

But both places would be too much. I would only choose one of them.

Lofoten. Stunning. For me it beat the Fjords.

Ok thanks- where would the best hiking trips be possible?

If you read my trip report you know that hiking was not an option for us. But the place where we stayed in Solvorn had all sorts of suggestions for hiking, kayaking on glacial lakes, and offered free bikes for riding around the fjord.

Thanks for your report - it sounds really nice there. I was just asking for the difference (hikes etc.) between the Lofoten and the fjords.

I went to Lofoten last summer for a couple of days, I'm actually from a city not far from Lofoten but I had never been in Lofoten before (?!). It is absolutely stunning (especially if the wheater is on your side:), and I prefer Lofoten to the fjords (I may be a bit biased:p), but I think it is possible to do both. :)

I chose to spend ten days in Lofoten for my upcoming trip rather than splitting time between there and other areas. That's because the bulk of our time will be spent hiking and because Lofoten offers the midnight sun, island scenery and fjords, albeit small fjgords, whereas all three features apparently are not as readily available in the other classic tourist areas of Norway.

Hiking resources I have used to plan my Lofoten trip are shown below. The last one is my favorite because it is from the point of view of a reasonably accomplished photographer; you know the views will be great if a photographer makes a point of providing details of a particular hike. His photos also indicate the scenery to be expected.

Yes. Lofoten is far better in my opinion. Henningsvær is a good base for exploring the area. With two weeks you should have more than enough time to also visit other places in Norway, the fjords around Bergen and the train to Oslo is a good choice.
