Where to go in Italy
I am planning a trip in the spring to Itlay. The trip is going to be short- 8-9 days and I know that I want to see Rome and Venice. I was wondering if I would have time to see another city-maybe Florence, Milan or Cinca terra ( I am unsure how to spell the last one). Any suggestions? And also, when should I go? I was thinking mid-late march. Thank you so much

For a short trip I suggest just two places. Rome and Venice would be delightful.
The activities in the Cinque Terre (Five Towns) and mostly hiking and looking at coastal views. It is a late spring to fall type of resort area. I don't think it fits in to your plan. I don't suggest Milan on a first visit to Italy. Florence is the greatest art city and we have gone there every March for the last four or five years. However if you only have 8 nights in Italy I wouldn't consider it. If you have 9 nights on the ground, maybe. You could do an open jaws ticket, flying in to Rome and out of Venice, or vice versa. 4 nights Rome 3 nights Venice 2 nights Florence |
Pick 2 out of 3 in that time. Rome deserves 5 days, Venice at least 3.

Hi AI,
With only 8-9 days, I also suggest that you stick to 2 cities. I would fly into Venice and out of Rome. See www.kayak.com for airfare. See www.trenitalia.com for trains. ((I)) |
I too would only stick with two cities. Rome deserves at least four nights. If you really want to see more of Italy, you could plan a daytrip from Rome to see some of the countryside. Orvieto would be a good option.
Good luck! Tracy |
