Sorry for derailing your thread a bit! Wow, so your Kacie's Mom then? I assume she's still in the role. Unreal - I have tell Nadia.

So, about your trip...I've only had one experience with bus tour (England and Scotland) and a couple of experiences with driving in Europe (France, Italy, Netherlands) but from that limited experience, hands down, we preferred being on our own!

The thing is, you have to be a person who enjoys pre-trip work; looking over maps, figuring out driving time, distances, parking situations, etc. It's not difficult, but I wouldn't do it if you don't enjoy planning.

Italy is a bit of a reach for your time frame of two weeks, especially since you want to spend a decent amount of time with the hippies. I would definitely suggest Paris (we're going back for the third time when we visit in April London is too close for us not to go) where you could easily spend a week, and if you want to see a bit of one other country, take a short train ride from Paris to Bruges, Belgium for a night or two before returning to London. It's a beautiful town (you can read a lot about it here on these boards). Also, there are many nice day trips you can take from Paris to see more of France - again, just search these boards, they're amazing.

Still shaking my head over the Hair connection, so funny!

You could take a ferry across the channel and spend a couple days touring Normandy.. Bayeux is a nice little French town, full of history...

My wife and I will be taking a trip to London in March and are planning a day trip tp Brugge Belgium.. Brugge looks like a nice place to spend a day.. or a couple if you have the time!... at any rate, enjoy your trip!

Hey, thanks for some great ideas! Now we're leaning toward a mediterranean cruise from Barcelona...spend a couple of days there in advance...then head up to London with the Hippies and do a drive trip from there.
*Just such a random thing to post a question on this site...where I've never been before...and get connected with someone related to our Tribe! Peace and LoVe

I love the Age of Aquarius! !!! I want it to come back, so good luck with the show!!!

You know what I think about your trip? I think if you got help working out good train tickets, you could take a fast train to Paris, stay for 5 days, take a fast train from there to either Lyon or Marseilles/Nice -- and go from there into Italy. Inside Italy, the trains are seldom fast, but you you could either go to Venice, Florence or Rome -- all by train. Maybe two but I wouldn't try three -- and then I would take a flight back.

I don't think you need a bus tour, especially if while you were around Lyon or Marseilles you were willing to do a bit driving in France.

You talked about "must sees." Did you mean France and Italy are "must sees" or there are "must sees" in those countries you "must see"? If so, you better share, or people are going to send you to Bruges!

(But PS: I like that ferry across the channel, then maybe on to Paris. Then how about an overnight train from there to Venice, then train to Florence or Rome and fly back to London?)
