Where to go for a long w/end in March?
 

Hello,
I am looking for suggestions for a destinations for a 4 day holiday last w/end of March somewhere warm in Europe. We'll be travelling out of London with our 2 year old son. We were thinking Barcelona but I read that March/April is a rainy season there. Would Amalfi coast be warm enough that time of year?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The Canaries would be your best bet for warmth then.

Greece [islands, not nec. mainland]

andalucia

Naples area could be warm, or not. you need to go a bit further south to guarantee warmth - in so far as that's possible.

Cornwall can be very nice then.

thank you both for suggestions! Traveling with a toddler, we'd probably stay clear of Turkey and Morocco though we'd love to visit both at some point. We've already been to Sicily and Andalucia. Are there any beaches on Madeira? Greece sounds like a good option. And what about Malta?

I've been to Malta at the end of March. It was a bit cool and definately not swimming weather. If we had gone a weekend earlier, we could have walked around in T-shirts.

Malta's an interesting island with fascinating history. I loved our day on Gozo too.

if you want beaches [except to walk on] in March, i fear you'll have to go out of europe.

if you won't go to morocco or tunisia, canaries would be favourite. don't think that there are many beaches on Madeira, but I've never been, so can't be sure.

Good suggestins above, with a toddler, I'm tempted to say Canaries. Probably the least likely to see rain, and on a warm-side though a tad too early to go into the actual water (esp for a young child). Lots of beaches, though not white sand. When you mean "warm", are you expecting comfortable warm (say upper teen to lower 20s), or beach weather (say 25 and above)?

Actually Morocco is very doable with toddlers--so long as you choose a place that's not too far from the airport.

BTW, as you probably know, the extended weekend of 21-24 March is Easter, so expect it would be a rather crowded time of the year to travel (schools off etc). So I presume you're going a week after that--that should be good time crowd and budget-wise.

I just got a chance to look at the latest answers to my post as we were traveling and had trouble with Internet connection.
A few answers from us that might help to narrow down the choices for the destination of our trip:
1. Yes, we were hoping to travel on the Easter w/end
2. No, we don't need the weather to be warm enough for the beach and swimming in the ocean/sea, but would like it to be warm enough to walk around in t-shirts, or long sleeves t-shirts at worst; the plus would be to be able to swim in a pool
3. Need a destination with an easy flight out of London and a short transfer from the airport

if that's what you want, hop on a plane to Newquay and come to Cornwall.

we've got beaches, fab gardens that time of year, and child-friendly [which means parent friendly] hotels.

it might rain, but then it might do that anywhere!

We've been to the Canaries late February/early March and had temperatures around 25C. Very pleasant, especially when arriving from the UKs cooler weather. Fuerteventura has the best beaches and Lanzarote has a lot of interest. There are some decent low key resorts - we stayed in Caletta de Fuste on Fuerteventura and Playa Blanca o Lanzarote both reasonable family resorts. There should be plenty of flights, including the budget airlines.
