Where to go for a last minute short weekend getaway?
 

Hello all,
Well based on some quick searching about pricing what would your vote be on the following quick destinations (from Milan):
1. London (even though one of us has been there)
2. Budapest
3. Barcelona
4. Amsterdam

Any thoughts?

Wow, cant go wrong with any of those...for this coming weekend I would maybe check the weather report and decide based on that?

For a last minute SHORT weekend getaway I'd pick whichever of the above you could get to quickest but Barcelona might win out at this time of year.

They're both pretty equidistant time wise.
Would any of them have special pre Christmas things going on?
Or more to do or less to do?

we went to Budapest between Christmas and New Year one year, Prague the year before.

they were both great places for a winter short break. the streets are swept clean of snow, the air is crisp, the public buildings are well-heated. we loved visiting the museums [you leave your heavy top coat in the garderobe] and art galleries. The restaurants serve food ideal for winter - warming soups, stews, roasts, etc, and they both have terrific Christmas markets.

there are lots of concerts and the opera in budapest is very resonably priced. Here's the link to the website that sells the tickets for events in Budapest:

we also went to Barcelona recently, but for christmas, I like to be somewhere cold. and I think it's probably cheaper too!
