Thanks everyone for the great insight. I’m still not sure about where to go. I’m really worried about the heat, I thought about many places but when I read about them every one says they are unpleasant in August. I was thinking of doing Provence before heading to Barcelona but again it seems to be unbearable from what I read. I also thought of Loire valley as I hear it’s a good romanic spot but again the weather seems to be an issue as well. My trip is late August so I don’t know if it makes a difference weather wise.

You are definitely overthinking it. It's summer, it's going to be hot and crowded, but you will be on vacation! Where do you like to be in summer? Beach, mountains, or in a city with air conditioning (admittedly I don't know how common a/c is in France).

In France, you should not assume a hotel has a/c. Verify if it's important to you.

Most but not all modern hotels in France have air conditioning albeit not at the level to which most Americans are accustomed. For the small charming family run (?) hotels, good luck.

Thank you, I needed someone to tell me I’m overthinking the heat issue, now we’re excited again😊.

So what do you think? Now my choices for a third destination are:

- Provence
- Loire Valley
- Normandy
- Slight chance of going to a spot in Austria like Vienna or Salzburg

Thanks again for the great insight 🌹

I’m now between choosing Loire Valley or Provence. Which do you think is more fun and scenery for a car drive? I think Provence might be more interesting but maybe it will be too hot in August and Loire Valley will make a better option. What do you think?

It depends on how you use the day. In Provence I would get up at 5:30 and see a lot of things before 10 and then go out again in the evening. The Loire less so. But frankly the temps are roughly similar. Personally I prefer the Loire and the Loir.

How do you plan on getting around? That will make a difference.
