Where to eat the BEST EVER bacalhau a braz in Lison?

This is my very first trip to Portugal. I can't tell you how much I LOOOOOOVE Portuguese food: bacalhau, sardinhas, caldo verde... I was born and raised in Brazil where I ate wonderful bacalhaus! I've been in US for the last 14 years and miss portuguese food terribly. A couple of weeks I found a place that served bolinhos de bacalhau ( bacallhau fritters) and they were not good at all. I gave up and will not eat portuguese food untill the 9/19 when I get to Lisbon. So, where did you have the very best bacalhau and sardines in Lisbon? I am not very found of tourists place so little neighborhood places would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,

Cristiane

Hi, Cristiane,

I have had lots of bacalhau in many places in Lisbon, but they have usually been "hole in the wall" kind of places whose names I don't remember. Keep your eyes open, you'll find lots of places.

One place I do remember was a restaurant called Namur, I think, located between the bull ring and the huge central bank building. I had a bacalhau de natas that was perfect for the cold rainy night -- true Portuguese comfort food.

And on one of my last days in Lisbon this July, I was following the marked trail from the Cathedral out to the Parque de Nacoes on the river and passed this restaurant, The Casa de Bacalhau
R. do Grilo 145
1950 Beato, Lisboa, Portugal
218 620 007‎
213 978 970‎

I went inside and the waiter showed me around the beautiful spot -- an old brick horse stable, I think he said. It's a really nice place. Unfortunately since I was walking and it was a hot day, a big plate of bacalhau was not exactly what I was interested in. But I have kept the card and hope to visit it on my return. I did some web searching to see what others have said and if you google "casa de bacalhau lisboa" you will find a lot of very positive reviews. So it might be worth a stop. This is definitely not a tourist place, it's on a road between the Sta. Apolonia train station and the main Port of Lisbon, so it's kind of a gritty area, but the restaurant looks very nice, and has a million kinds of bacalhau. Well, ok, not a million.

Hope you have a great trip to Portugal. Laurie

Dear Laurie,

Thank you so very much for your recommendations! As a matter of fact I have a little list with all of your tips; including the marvelous salt one! Please, please, please keep them coming :) I can't wait to get to Portugal.
Thanks again,

Cris
