Where to eat near Dijon train station?

Hello dear fodorites,

Hubby and I and his parents are going to be in Burgundy this Sept. We are staying in Beaune, but picking the car up in Dijon. Of course, our train arrives from Paris at 12:05...and the car rental place is closed 12 - 2.

I thought we could go to a nice place for lunch (it will be Wed) until the rental place opens again. We will have our luggage so nothing too far.

Any good suggestions?

Thank you so much!!!

I went to the Universite de Dijon so many years ago that the information would be irrelevant. However, there are plenty of places close to the train station if you just want to kill time before picking up the car.

Also, you might try phoning the car agency and let them know of the train timing problem. Perhaps they will bend the rules to assist you if you let them know in advance.

Jamikins, I had exactly the same problem in Metz. The TGV arrived at 12:02 and Hertz was closed from 12:00 to 14:00. However, luckily I knew all of the eating places across from the train station. Generally the train station area is a convenient place to eat in just about any French town -- not necessarily for gourmet cuisine, but definitely the best place to look when you need a meal outside standard hours (not the case here of course).

Oh, and in Metz I did call Hertz and there was no bending of rules. Mealtime is mealtime, and they know very well the train arrival times already!

Hi Jami, why don't you leave your luggage at the train station?
Prices (from 1/July/07): 4€ one luggage, 2€ supplementary luggage. And then you can go anywhere you want.

On place Darcy when you head to the center, there is the restaurant of Hotel du Nord (restaurant de la Porte Guillaume) with good Burgundian cuisine (I think they also have a wine bar). Also near St Benigne church, le Gril'Laure 8, Place Saint-Bénigne.

Otherwise the brasserie La Grande Taverne 22, Avenue Maréchal Foch has good reviews and you'll just have to cross the street from the station.

Welcome back to Dijon, even for such a short stay! :-)

Thank you all so much! Will print this off and check it out.

And dont worry Coco, we are going to be returning to Dijon for the day later in the week...cant just stop at the train station!
