Where to drive in Germany

I need some expertise and input.
After spending time in Munich and Southern Bavaria, we will be dropping our daughter off at the Munich airport before we continue on.
We will have 2-3 days before we drop off the car and catch a train to Gent. Would love some input as to where we should go.

Franconia on your way to the most convenient city along the Rhine to drop off the car and catch a train to Ghent.
