Hi, Try Burdock's near Christchurch for the best fish and chips. Also, there's a pub near there called the Lord Edward, which has a seafood place which is supposed to be pretty good...
For Italian you could try QV2, Pizza Stop, Le Caprice, Nicos..
French- try Le Cave on Duke St
Moderate-Expensive restaurants specialising in
modern food would include Mermaid
on Dame St., the Commons on Stephens Green.
Re lunch- try the 2 branches of The Queen of Tarts on Dame st

For first-class dining, try Chapter One in the basement of the Writers' Museum on Parnell Square--probably one of the "10 best" in Dublin. Not cheap (E150 and up for two depending on the wine) but worth every cent. Modern Irish-Continental and you'll have to book ahead.

Take afternoon tea (after three) at the Shelbourne Hotel (around E35 for two).

DES

Diane,

I've always had good luck with the recommendations offered by a couple of Irish "foodies," John and Sally McKenna. Their annually-published 100 Best Places to Eat in Ireland is a small gem, a must for any traveler to Ireland. Check out: www.bridgestone-eu.com.

Bet of luck.

P.S. In Dublin, the Mckennas are especially fond of The Commons (St. Stephen's Green), Halo's (in the Morrison Hotel, Ormond Quay), and The Temple Bar-based Mermaid Cafe. But then, this is just a partial list of their Dublin area recommendations.

Best of luck.

I don't know why Burdocks has such a great reputation. I grabbed some fish there, (which is all you can do for it is a tiny whole in the wall with no seats) and it was the geasiest food I have ever eaten. Yes, the tour bus drivers tell you it's the best, but I couldn't finish mine it was so greasy. I would rate it as the worst fish and chips I've ever eaten.

Bill
