Where to call home base on the French Riviera

Hi there- we are planning to stay 3 days on the French Riviera, flying into Nice, on the way to Italy and will be renting a car. It will be the 3 of us, my husband and my 7 yr old daughter. Would you recommend CapmFerat and Villefranche? Is this centrally located? Also, is it worth going to Cannes and San Tropez? Also, what rental company is good which will allow a Nice pick up and Naples, Italy return? What other quaint towns are good to visit? We will be there April 22-25. We will be spending 1 night somewhere on the way to Rome - I've been to Sienna which seems a good half way point. Any recommendations? Thanks!

We stayed in Villefranche at the Hotel Welcome a couple of years ago and thought it was a great base for the off season. The hotel is right across the street from a beach. One day we took the train to Monaco which I think is probably the only sane way to go.

Thanks so much for your quick reply! Is it really nuts driving there? What are some other quaint towns? I heard Antibes, Eze are beautiful. Thanks again!

Several years ago, we stayed in Villefranche in an apartment and loved it. Last summer we stayed in a villa between Antibes and Biot, and we visited Villfranche on a day trip and did not like it as much. A couple of years ago, we stayed in an apartment in Antibes and we have decided that it is our favorite place to stay when visiting the French Riviera.

Thanks Marianna - we will have a car and I heard that hotel parking is very high. Do you have any recommendations on that? We are staying at a good friends beach house in Roqueburn for one night too which is a 15 min walk to Monaco. He said that Antibes is his favorite place!
