What online resource can I use to buy the Michelin 100 series maps of France?

I'm not familiar with the 100 series, but here's where I just bought a couple of the yellow local France maps. They also have the orange regional maps. Very good service.

They may not be available in US stores, but I believe that the large format Road Atlas is on the same scale.

Languagequest doesn't carry the 100 series. I'm looking for the Michelin #113, 114, and 115 that Stu Dudley recommends. I know they are cheaper to buy in Europe, but I'd like to do some trip planning with them ahead of time.

Try amazon.com and barnesandnoble.com. I've sometimes found the maps at Borders and my local independent book store; you might try the politicsandprose.com site also.

If you don't mind ordering from Canada, the World of Maps bookstore in Ottawa lists 114 and 115 in their online catalogue:

Search for maps of France, scroll down through a zillion of them, and you'll find 114 (Cote d'Azur-Var-Gorges Verdon) and 115 (Cote d'Azur-Alpes-Maritimes). You could phone them and ask whether they have 113. Their number is (613) 724-6776.

I'm going to do a little research tomorrow and see if any of the 300 series maps contain the same amount of detail as the 100 series maps. For Provence, (map 113), you'll need 3 different 300 series maps to cover the same territoty. However the 300 map for the Alps-Maritimes is ONLY this one department - so perhaps the 300 replaces the 100.

The 500 series maps do not show all the roads that are on the 100 series.

I purchased a 113 map last year at Books Plus where I live - near San Francisco.

Michelin Map 341 for the Alps Maritimes (Nice & surrounds) is on a scale of 1/150,000. The 100 series map for the same department is 1/100,000. I suspect the 100 series map has roads that are not on the 341 map.

If anyone has the 341 map, post here & I'll find a road that's on the 100 series map but not on the 500 series map - and we'll see if it's included on the 341 map.

Hi Stu. I don't have 341, but you've got me thinking: are there 100 series maps for all of France? If they're all 1/100000, I'd start buying them instead of the 300 series. And a second point: do the 100 series have an index of towns, the same way that the 300 series do?

As far as I know, there are only 100 maps for the Riveria (2 maps), 1 for Provence, and 1 for the Environs de Paris. None have city indexes - which are quite helpful.

The Provence 113 map is 1/160,000 and the others are 1/100,000. The Provence map has the same detail as the 300 maps. However, depending upon where you go in Provence, you would need 3 maps to cover the same area as the 113. You need 332 for much of Provence, but if you want to go to Nimes, Uzes, Camargue, Aigues Mortes, or Gorges de l'Ardeche you also need 339. If you want to travel to Aix, Marseille, or Cassis you will need 340.

I bought map 102 which is the Battle of Normandy reprint of the 1947 map from a seller off Amazon, the book depository, just before Christmas. The map is new and took about 2 weeks to receive.

Find Grasse on your map. Just southeast of Grasse, find the D9 heading south. The D9 hits the D609, and take the D609 north back towards Grasse. Then take the D2562 east - back to Grasse. This forms a triangle. On my 500 series map, there is just 1 road running east & west through the upper third of this triangle. It starts at the D609 & D2562 intersection & heads east through St Jacques and hits the D9. On my 115 map, there are about 5-6 other roads within this triangle. At the upper side of the triangle next to Grasse, there is a town alled St Antoine that's on my 115 map, but not on my 528 map.

Also, the D9 heading south passes through Chemins just southeast of Grass. Chemins is not on my 528 map.

Thanks, Stu. I'll keep amassing the 300 series. You're right, though, about covering smaller areas. I inevitably discover that I need one more than I initially thought I would.

Sorry for the delay. I had an important phone call.

The 341 map only has 1 road through that triangle except for a loop road at the very top of the triange which looks like the exit 2 road into Grasse. I see no Chemins or St Antoine.

I also have yellow map 245 of this area, which is 1/200 000 and covers much more territory. It looks like map 341 is simply an enlarged version of a section of map 245, same detail on both maps.

I don't know if they were the 100 series maps, but a number of years ago a French friend of mine and myself stopped at one of those HUGE supermarkets a purchased an number of Michelin maps for the sections of France we were going to tour. They had a very large selection, I don't feel their selection covered all of France, but maybe a quarter of the country -- the most popular and those in the large area near the store. The supermarket was in the Nantes area.

Thanks Images2 - so the 100 series has more detail than the 300, old 400, and 500 series maps. That's kinda what I thought.

I compared the 115 with the old 245 and it sure makes a big difference when using a 1/100,000 instead of a 1/200,000.
