Where to buy a hot iron/hair straightener in Madrid
I will be in Madrid in a couple weeks and I would like to buy a hair straightener/hot iron. I am going to Madrid for work, so I won't have much time to shop, but I do have the afternoon of the day I arrive (Sunday) free to go buy one. I am staying on Gran Via near the intersection of Calle Acala, so someplace close by would be great. My plan is to be out and about sightseeing though, so I can go farther afield if needed.
Thanks

That would be Calle de Alcalá nor Acala
Watch this promotional video of a hardware store nearby, maybe 5 minutes on foot if that:
http://www.laguia.es/poblaciones/238.../video-428.htm
where you can catch a glimpse of some electrical hair products, quite possibly they will have what you need:
Ferreteria La Vasco-Madrileña
Calle Infantas 42
Tel 91 521 30 86
But send them an email to see if they open on a Sunday (and keep in mind the traditional closing in the early afternoon even if they otherwise are open):

Why not buy one before you leave? Shouldn't be hard to find a travel model that is already dual-voltage, all you'd need is the adapter for the prongs/sockets if the model you buy doesn't already have the European connector also.

Since the Comunidad Madrid liberalized the opening hours, Corte Inglés is open on sundays from 11:00 till 21:00 hrs.
As the department store near Gran Vía spreads over several neighboring buildings, check the directories at the entrances of any building for guidance where to find the hairdryers. The directories are bi-lingual, so you should have no problems.

Thanks everybody. Corte Ingles it is
The reason I didn't want to buy one ahead of time is that people report a lot of problems with heating appliances, even those that are dual voltage. The reviews on the Magellan site get pretty good reviews though.

N_M...thank you so much for asking this question! I like to purchase hair styling equipment "on site" as well. If you can find the products without too much trouble soon after arrival, I find that it saves me much time, effort and headache throughout my trip. People think I'm crazy, but I like this method very much.
SO glad to know about Corte Inglés!
