Where to be in Paris on the New Year night?

I will arrive to Paris with my wife and son on December 31. What is the best place to meet New Year in Paris? Not to spend the whole night, though :-) (We'll stay in Latin Quarter).

Thanks, Underhill. Alas, no advice at all? Does it mean no definite answer exist and we can be anywhere? :-)

We spent last New Year's eve in the park area in front of Notre Dame Cathedral. There was a large crowd, but it wasn't "crowded" if you know what I mean.

It was lovely with ND lit up, a cup of vin chaud in one hand (there will be lots of outdoor stands selling it) and hubby's hand in my other.

I know LOTS of people gather at the Eiffel Tower and along the Champes Elysee, as well.

Our choice several years ago was the Eiffel Tower. It was crowded, but not jammed, and the crowd was pleasantly boisterous, but not at all over-the-top wild.
