Where should I go?????
 

Hi all,
I'm travelling back to the uk to visit family and thought I would explore a little of Europe whilst i'm there. I will have the whole of November to travel if I wish.
Can you please advise where is should go.
I am a female travelling alone, I would like to stay somewhere I can walk or cycle and explore.
I was thinking Dordogne (Sarlat and surrounding villages) or maybe southern Italy.
I can handle cold but would like to avoid grey and rainy if possible. I was actually hoping for snow but have been well informed that it is unlikely in November.
I would like to explore somewhere new and have been to Rome, Florence, Paris.
Any information is helpful

Do you want to spend the whole month in one place? It kinda reads like that. On the other hand you say 'explore Europe' which would tend to indicate movement. You need to clarify. You also need to indicate a budget for this month.

November can be an awkward month everywhere in Europe for the average tourist. If you actually do want snow as you say however, that is not difficult to find really.

If you want to walk and cycle as you say, then it may be possible to do that at lower elevations while still being able to access snow nearby. But you are likely going to have to accept some grey and rainy as well. You can't really have your cake and eat it too.

If you want to avoid cold, forget about snow and have the best chance of warmer, drier weather than perhaps the Canary Islands would suit you.

I think the Dordogne in November would be dreadful, that's a terrible idea based on weather. It may be cold and windy, and it's one of the rainier months. Some things may be closed or have very reduced hours. You are basing your opinions on photos and info you have of places in summer, I suspect.

What do you mean by southern Italy, Sicily? That could be a good idea as it is warmer there and it has lower rainfall.

November is generally a dreary month in many places and it may well be grey a lot, and rainy. If I were you, I'd go to Spain or southern France, or maybe Netherlands if you are really into biking. Sicily sounds real good, also.

We found Rome really nice (highs in 60s with not that much rain) in November...but maybe we were just lucky weather-wise.

Thanks for your comments. I have to be in the uk for late oct and mid dec for family birthdays so thought I would take advantage of the free time and travel in November.
Ideally it would be the summer.

Christina, please, biking the Netherlands in November? Not for fun, I can assure you.

In November I have ridden a bike along the Algarve, certainly warm enough. The Canaries are good, friends tell me Sicily will still be just about warm and I've also been to Cyprus at that time of year.

I have been frozen and boiled in the south of France in November, too risky.

November is the worst, wettest, bleakest month in the Dordogne. And yes, lots of things are closed. Strike that off the list.

I would go to Sicily or Morocco.
