Where on earth will they put the London Olympics?

Only vertical athletic events will be competed in London City. High jump, pole vaulting and rock climbing.
The rest of the events will be outsourced to China. |

What's your question? A large slug of the events will be at the Olympic Park in NE London. A core part of London's pitch was that the Olympics would help regenerate this rather abandoned part of the city - the Olympic Village being turned into low-cost housing afterwards, and the stadium slightly downgraded. So the most heavily-attended bits would be in a part of town no-one would normally visit. Another core part was that some events would be in highly photogenic locations, like Horseguards Parade. Football and tennis obviously have to be at Wembley and Wimbledon. We failed to pitch, as we should have, for cricket, rugby or real tennis to be Olympic sports (hell, if synchronised swimming can make it...), so Twickenham and Hampton Court aren't being used, and Lords (the spiritual home of the world's most watched sport) is being used for archery - Sherwood Forest having been deemed too far from London. As for Weald Country Park? A fake location, put into the pitch to see how many people actually read it. |
It's a pity they decided not to do the high diving events from the top of Nelson's Column into the fountain pools.
They also decided not to have the yachting events on the Serpentine but the 1km walk along Oxford Street is still going ahead |
Heck, the Olympics only last for two weeks, there isn't time for a cricket competition! Although,I agree that it would be a worthy addition. It would be "the" place for afternoon tea.

Cricket the most watched sport? Are you sure? Even with India and Pakistan, it must be a relatively small fraction of the world's population. Has to be footie.

And that's assuming that people sat in front of a match, whether in the ground or on telly, are actually watching it rather than catching 40 winks....

India has a population of over a billion even if only 10% watch cricket that's still 100 million spectators.
The UK won't even get a million a week at football matches so taking that worldwide you won't get anything near 100 million |
