A no brainer: Tuscany with Paris a close second. But I'm off to Venice soon and this may all change...

Venice, Italy. I still have a long ways to go on my travel wish list, though.

Rome is my favorite city, Austria is my favorite country (I love the cities and the countryside), but I also loved the scenery in the Berchtesgadenland region of Germany.

This is a mood-dependent response. Today, I'm saying the Berner Oberland. Tomorrow, it'll be Venice. A week from now, it may be Paris.

Nice to see that the very first response on this thread gives top billing to St. Remy, since we'll be spending 3 nights there in June!

1) New York

2) Rome

3) Paris

The last two cities are more or less tied.

My favorite is always Paris. After that, Florence, Venice, Sicily, Provence, London, Seville - whatever place we have been most recently. I'm a bit fickle but never about my very favorite, Paris.

Our house and hometown are number one.

But elsewhere:

Venice--I'd live there if I had lots of money and had the ability to speak enough Italian to get around comfortably.

Unfortunately, I have neither. I might get the money someday. But I have something akin to a tin ear when it comes to replicating sounds and tones.

I can learn words and phrases and grammar, but actually saying the words with anything close to proper pronunciation and emphasis is a total mystery to me. I could probably learn enough to understand other's speech and to write well enough, but my speaking would be a huge problem.

The American Civil War general and former President U.S. Grant had a tin ear. He is quoted as saying, "I can recognize two tunes. One is Yankee Doodle and the other one isn't."
