The US $ is strong in 1985, if you are into the time-space space-time stuff. Otherwise you take your barrel of oil and ounce of gold over there and get the same prices as you did then.

The best way to beat the high prices is to travel off season. Travel is extraordinarily season dependent. Take April in Paris, and Rome, and go east before they all join the euro dominion.

Just recently (in 1979), I paid 10 Marks per day (= 5€) for a nice room in a nice village in the Bavarian forest. Today ist's 18€, not so bad at all. :D

works out OK in Mexico. ~10 peso to the dollars. has been relatively stable for a few years now.
