I spent one night in Boppard a few weeks ago, also in Hotel Gunther. I booked a guesthouse instead of the hotel. The owners were great, and the room I got was the size of an apartment and kept very nicely. I highly recommend this hotel.

I arrived at about 5 pm. Between this time and the next morning, I was able to see most of the major sites of this town. There is a tourist brochure that lists them (I think I got one from the hotel). I think the sites were quite interesting.

The shops generally close by 5pm, but there are a number of restaurant choices. I think this is a good choice for a one night stop along the Rhine.

Carol Jean, could you elaborate where exactly the Birkenstock factory you visited is? I've seen a few posts on this board and others regarding this but no one seems to have the particulars. Please, please pass this info on! Thanks in advance.
