where is the best place to stay in Rome and Venice?

Where looking for a place to stay in Rome for 2 people in April. We're a budget traveller so we're looking for less than 90EUR a night. We're also looking for a place to stay in Venice in April. Thanks

That's quite a tight budget but still doable. Here's a start:

For a good B&B in Rome, I would suggest Gullivers Place. I just stayed there for a week in December 2004. They have 5 private rooms with 5 private bathrooms (although 2 are in the hall, they're still private). The cost was 90 euro including breakfast. Their website is www.gulliversplace.com Have a great trip, I'll be in Rome in April as well.

Not to be picky - but if you want a budget hotel - that's what the question should be - not the "best" hotel - which would probably cost 4 or 5 times what you want to pay.

Check out cross-pollinate.com for apts in Rome and Venice. Also Hotel Ai Do Mori near Piazza San Marco was very reasonable.

Go to Venere.com an excellent web site for finding hotels and getting reviews for each from vacationers like yourself. I chose all of my hotels from their recommendations.

We stayed with the lovely Sara who owns the Gullivers Place B&B last September and were very pleased with the whole experience. Clean, spacious, excellent value and Sara was the most helpful person we met on our 6 week tour... any question answered and great tips on what to see and how to best optimise your time in Rome. A short walk from Termini, lots of places to eat nearby, if you like walking it is a relatively easy walk to the main tourist areas. Highly recommend the whole experience.
