Where is the best place to go in Greece??

Hey there,

I am hoping to travel to Greece this summer. I had planned on Ibiza with some friends but have since started going out with a great guy and would like our first holiday together to be just us.
We're looking for something fun but yet with some good sights to see good beaches and a lively enough nightlife and yes with a bit of romance thrown in there Could anyone recommend a place in Greece that would suit PLEASE??
I have been looking up loads of different websites and there are just so many different parts of Greece I feel like my head is going to explode trying to decide....Would really appreciate some advice PLEASE and Thank you in advance.

Take a cruise of the Greek islands. It would be very romantic and you can see a lot of different islands. The Islands are the best part of Greece, IMHO. You can book different cruise lengths to fit within your budget. I think the ships are smaller in the Aegean so that's better. Spouse and I did that many many years ago and loved it.

Start by determining your travel options. For example, are you limited to flying into Athens, or do you like somewhere with low-cost flights to other places in Greece? We have not idea what you budget, timeline, etc.., are, so throwing out suggestions is like throwing darts--and will likely leave you just as confused.
"Best" is meaningless--it depends on what you want out of the trip. If you want it in the absolute simplest terms, just accept Santorini as the answer, otherwise, do more research and give us some options to help you choose among.

H Áine,

Your name suggests you are from Ireland, but maybe not. If you do live there or somewhere else in Europe, suggest you look for direct flights to the islands from an airport near your home. If you want something similar to Ibiza, there are resorts on all the main islands, e.g. Crete, Rhodes, Corfu, etc with good beaches and a lively clubbing scene. If you fly into Athens you can take a ferry to Paros or Ios, which also have good nightlife in July and August.

I haven't been to Crete but wanted to tell you to have a great trip. I understand it's a long way to Tipperary.

(Sorry, someone had to say it.)

You won't get bored in Hersonissos! I haven't been there myself, but Frida Apartments seem to get decent reviews on Trip Advisor. Like most hotels the reviews are mixed, so you will have to decide which ones to believe.

I've been to Crete (on the cruise I mentioned above) although not to Hersonissos. We really enjoyed it, and have thought many times of going back. So I'm sure you'll have a great time.

One of my good memories of travel is seeing the adherents of a political party (PASOK, I think) marching together into town to vote. Also, young men on scooters who would slap new political posters over the ones that some other young men had just put up.

They take democracy seriously there.

I spent two weeks on Crete near Chania and hope to return as I loved it there. You've made a good choice. It's a beautiful area offering so many options, history, hiking, mountains, beaches, and wonderful food.

Crete is wonderful - lots to do and see. We are going again this summer to Chania and then to the southern coast in the Plakias area. We love it there - very beautiful.

Hersonissos and Malia are the less appealing places on Crete in my opinion.
I hope that you are aware of the fact that Piskopiano is a small village on the hills and not on the sea?
It is also not in walking distance to a beach...

I highly recommend Crete. I have been living here for a year & enjoyed the summer, especially in Hersonissos & Malia! A lot of people from the UK & other parts of Europe come down to Crete to vacation... Mariana's Studio (located in Malia) is a place I stayed at while visiting Hersonissos/Malia (the two towns are roughly 5 minutes apart). The woman Mariana & her grandson who run the place are very hospitable.

Aw im so excited to get there wish it was August already
Just want to say thank ye all so much ye're great for all the advice & info and making me feel really good about my decision now as I was a bit worried, but iv no doubt it will be a memorable and fun experience either way
Hoping we could do a bit of Island hoping if i can would be great to see a few different parts maybe a few day trips etc!!
@NIKKI....Oh its a very long way to Tipperary but well worth it haha!!
@CLAUSAR....I wouldn't be a lover of walking too far so im sure il be getting taxi's at every opportunity so lazy haha im sure there will be plenty of beautiful beaches we can hop on a bus or boat to go see, n also the days im slightly sick (self inflicted ha)lying by the pool will be very appealing

Thanks again guys

Saying what's the best place in Greece is like asking "how long is a string"!! Wonderful wonderful. I loved Mykonos and the islands around it. I would definitely do some island hopping.
