Where is the best area to stay in Prague?

Hi Everyone!

My partner and I are staying in Prague between the 10th-15th August and just wondering if its best to stay in old Prague, new Prague or Prague 1-7? there are so many separate areas its hard to know!

We are not massive parties but it would be good to be near some restaurants and bars however we are happy to walk if needed?

If anyone has any suggestions as well for hotels or air bnbs we would be so grateful!

Many thanks,

Serica

the Area around Namesti Republicky is a popular area but anywhere in and around the Old town would be ideal for a first time visitor.I stay in Prague 6 which is the Dejvicka area of the city, still good for a tourist but trams and metros would be need to get to most places though the Castle area is walkable.

I like the Mala Strana area (west side of the river from the old town, bottom of the hill below the castle, basically). Anywhere near the center of Prague will be mobbed with tourists during the day, but Mala Strana felt a tad less so. The old town is very convenient too

Mala Strana.

I prefer Old Town, specifically the Josefov area but around Namesti Republicky is convenient, also.

Prague 1-7 is just the different district numbers, it isn't a separate place from Old Town and New Town, it really isn't that complicated if you just look at a map and see where is convenient for what you want to do, and near a metro stop. Old Town is district 1 (which includes the Josefov and Mala Strana, in fact) and New Town is 2. If you look at a map, I can't imagine why you'd stay in district 6, for example.

This is really no different from most any city where tourists go that is an older city. It is generally most convenient for first-timers to be in the center.

Ditto this:
