Where is Paris' ferris wheel located?

While in Paris in November 2000 a friend says he rode a large ferris wheel located near the Place de la Concorde. However, I can not locate it on my Paris map or tourist book. Is this ferris wheel still in operation, and if so, exactly where is it located? While in London and Paris in March, we want to ride both ferris wheels overlooking these two beautiful cities.

Hi TT,

IIRC, they set up a ferris wheel in the Pl Concorde during the summer months.

I don't know if it will be there in March.

It is not anywhere as high as the London eye.

It's on the edge of the Tuilleries, closer to the Louvre end than the Place de la Concorde end. It has not been up in March when I have been there (2002 and 2004) but it was up in July several difference years so apparently it's a summer thing. My daughter lived in Paris from January to June a couple of years ago and said it went up in late spring. As Ira said, it's nowhere as big as the London Eye, it's not a permanet thing.

Thank goodness it's not permanent. What an eyesore! Spoils the view looking down the Champs Elysee. I gather the Parisians aren't fans of it either. What were they thinking?

It was there in March of 2001. I have a pic of myself sitting at the top with my eyes squeezed shut.

That accursed eyesore is on the place de la Concorde at this moment. I hope and pray that it will soon be removed. It's like a vampire: it just keeps reappearing no matter how often the city's admirers try to kill it off. I guess money talks.

TwoTravelers --

The wheel was up and running at Concorde over Christmas in 2004. We rode it just in time, as we saw them dismantling it on New Year's day.

There was one operating in May, 2001 when we were there, but after extending the deadline a couple of times, the City withdrew the permit and the owner had to close it down.

Anyway, it appears that it is now a seasonal thing; unlikely that it will be there when you are. Sorry!

It is now authorized for the holidays and was operating at Christmas, smaller than than the first version that was set up in 1999. I totally despise the location of it, yet I took it for the first time this year (8€) with a family member.

On 4 trips to Paris I've yet to see this ferris wheel. I watched Da Vinci code the other night and there it was...in the Tuilleries. Do they still put it up?

The Ferris wheel (La Grande Roue) is there right now, but it's going to be taken down on January 7.
