Where is Fontodi?
 

I've read about the wine; but, where is the vinyard located? Do they do tours or tastings?

Fontodi is of special interest to travelers to this region because of the guest accommodations they have for rent. If you are planning a trip to Tuscany, "Casa La Rota," a remodeled farmhouse, would be an ideal base camp from which to make day trips.

The house sits amid vineyards, with views all around. There's a swimming pool, too, for days when sunbathing seems more enticing than touring wineries.

This is a great vineyard.

Fontodi is in Chianti; more specifically, in the Panzano region.

In Easter '04, during our trip to tuscany, we targeted this vineyard specifically and the wine is exceptional. The location is not very well marked, but with the map of chianti you can get for free (search this site and you'll find it), you'll be able to find it. The driveway is a small dirt road just off the main road, but there is only a small sign noting it (thank goodness the wife had good eyes!).

When we visited, we were the only ones there for tasting. I have no idea about a tour of the vineyard, because we weren't interested in that.

Of course, tastings are free (as they should be at any respectable vineyard), and we tasted a wide range of chianti's and Brunellos. Their standard DOCG chianti classico is approx 11-12 Euro, and the riserva is about 18. The Brunellos (Super Tuscans) are of course much more expensive.

Of the 5 or so vineyards we visited, Fontodi is our favorite.
