Where is Beynac?

I've been searching my map of France and can't find it. Might it be too small to be shown? What is it near? Thanks.

Sue

It's in the Dordogne area, not far from Sarlat.

StuDudley Feb 24th, 2006 07:52 AM

Full name is Beynac-et-Cazenac. Just a bit southeast of Sarlat.

Oops - southwest of Sarlat

Beynac or Beynac-Et-Cazenac?

Michael Feb 25th, 2006 08:07 AM

According to the Michelin Road Atlas, it is Beynac-et-Cazenac.

Hi S,

If you want the one in the Perigord, enter Beynac-et-Cazenac at www.viamichelin.com

Michael--there is also a plain, old Beynac.

The town on the Dordogne river with the castle of the 100 years war fame is officially named "Beynac-et-Cazennac". However, Beynac is on the river under the castle, about 12 kms from Sarlat in the direction of Bergerac and Bordeaux. Cazennac does not seem to have any town centre as such and it is about 2-3 km up a narrow road past farm land that leads off the road along the river through Beynac. Having stayed in Beynac (aka "Beynac-et-Cazenac") and walked to Cazennac (also aka "Beynac-et-Cazenac") I can say that Beynac and Cazenac are officially part of one town with a combined name but physically distinct.

Sorry for the misspellings of Cazenac

RufusTFirefly Feb 26th, 2006 09:00 AM

And there's the Beynac about a 15-20 minute drive southwest of Limoges. We drove through there several years ago. About 150 km north of Beynac-et-Cazenac.

Faux Feb 27th, 2006 12:35 AM

Rufus, would you recommend going to see the Beynac near Limoges, as opposed to Beynac-et-Cazenac?

RufusTFirefly Feb 27th, 2006 03:57 AM

No, I would not recommend the Beynac near Limoges over Beynac-et-Cazenac as a tourist destination.
