Where is a good location for car rental pickup in Munich?

We will be renting a car in Munich for a several weeks driving tour. We will be renting through Autoeurope. Where is a good place to pick up the car, other than the airport, for exiting the city without undue traffic/direction problems? We are staying at Hotel Uhland and could take taxi or public transportation to a convenient pickup location. Thanks.

I rented a car for pickup from the main train station. The cars aren't exactly at the station, but nearby. With the aid of GPS, it was a breeze.

We also picked up at the main train station. Now, the actual car was not at the station but in a nearby undergound garage (Hertz). The desk was in the station. We too left Munich as soon as we picked up the car and had no problems with getting out of town.

Thanks to you both. Sounds do-able.

I agree with the other posters. You are better off arranging for a pickup at some place convenient to get to from your hotel than in trying to get to an ideal city location. Munich is quite easy to get out of from even the Hauptbahnhof.

If renting from the main railway station does not incur a surcharge, you can do so. I don't find it too convenient as the desks are in the station but the cars are somewhere nearby.

If you plan to go towards Salzburg or Nürnberg (i.e. to the East or North), you could also check the location "Munich Downtown Office, 116 Denninger Str."
From your hotel it would be a direct subway ride (15min max) to the rental office. And you would already be already at the Eastern edge of Munich and close to the motorway.
That location does not make sense, though, if you plan to go West, Southwest, or South from Munich.

Thanks, cowboy, We'll check the map and see if this will work for us. Our itinerary isn't fixed yet.

We stayed at Hotel Uhland and rented our car from the main railway station. It is a short easy bus ride or you can walk as well.
