A block down from where I used to live on Jalan Tegalega, in Bogor, west Java, Indonesia. The little roadside stand set up every evening making sate ayam (chicken sate) With the most glorious peanut sauce and a side or rice wrapped in a banana leaf!

If I could, I would be with my friends around a large table in Congeliano eating all their homecooked dishes. Better than any restaurant. Or in Florence at another friends house, again around the big table with everyone, again eating her homecooked meals.

I would love to be sitting right this minute on the upstairs terrace of Mama Sophia's restaurant on the island of Rhodes--drinking retsina and eating anything that the waiter, son of the owner, recommended! What a great 3 hour meal. How about a pitcher of proscecco sitting at the Lowenbrau bar on the very edge of the Grand Canal in Venice?

Cafe Concertje in Amsterdam, which we stumbled into in October 2004. Was wishing I were there while cleaning up our kitchen after dinner tonight, and then wandered into my office and found this thread.

A bowl of steaming Saimin with vegetables, fish cake, egg, and hot sauce at Hamura Saimin in Lihue, Kauai.
A close second would be pescado entero/a whole fried snapper, and a margarita (!), at Tony's in the Mismaloya Village, Puerto Vallarta.

At Casa Mia in Rome - the best pasta e fagioli I have ever had! Also Pizza Margherita and the house wine. Good food and congenial atmosphere!
(Either that or if I could wangle an invitation to LoveItaly's friends' home. . . That sounds perfect!)

Coupla bottles o' bubbles, a light starter of some kind; then duck with some fruit reduction sauce. Lemon tart that the cook wouldn't share the recipe for) and a brandy or three with coffee. Actually more of a winter meal I suppose, but who cares?
La Couleuvrine, a little not-many-stars hotel (with beautiful, wonderful restaurant) in Sarlat in the Dordogne.

I would love to eat at the cute little Shabu Shabu restaurant in Daegu South Korea, around the corner where I worked. I'd go with all the great teacher's I worked with.
Shabu Shabu is a big pot of spicy broth, and you dip thin slices of beef into it to cook it and wrap it in lettuce filled with stikcy rice and spicy bean paste. Then you add noodles to the broth and eat those. So delicious!

I would love to be at my mother in law's house in Switzerland - enjoying a home cooked meal of jagerschnitzel, pomme frittes, salad, and fresh brot. Then for dessert, a yummy slice of that almond/honey cake she makes with a cup of coffee.

Oh Ana Roz, I am so with you at Hamura's. A couple of meat sticks and a medium saimin. Every time we go there we have to stand in line for about 15 minutes but it is so worth it. My family noticed how packed it always is, so we in fun thought we should open a branch here in Sacramento. But then decided we didn't want to work that hard!
I would also eat at the Cane e Gatto in Siena in a blink of an eyelash. Happy to share the table with all of you. (But you have to pay for your own)
