A parmo is a piece of chicken, deep fried and covered in a cheese sauce.

Huh. A picture's worth a thousand words. No worse than what most Americans eat just all mixed up together minus any form of protein. Chip butty. Who knew?

I'll have to pass on the tripe. My husband's Hispanic family doesn't even like menudo. I can't stomache it either. Major ewww factor.

I think the vinegar is the key to a chip butty. (That's just my uninformed American opinion, of course.)

MacDonald's fries on buttered bread don't appeal. But proper chips, a bit soggy with something acidic, on buttered bread...now you're talking!

Mine was doused in vinegar. So tasty.

NewbE, I think you will get much support for the use of vinegar with a chip butty. In Scotland they have what is called sauce and chips which is a mixture (I think) of HP sauce and vinegar.

What I don't get is having battered fish and gravy. I quite like curry sauce and fish but not gravy. The English curry sauce accompanying fish tends to be a favourite in Lancashire.
