Where in Ireland?
 

I'm a 20 year old student who is looking to study abroad in Ireland next fall... I am debating between Galway, Limerick, Cork. I am thinking that Galway sounds best, but I just don't know. What would you recommend? <BR>Thanks! <BR>-Ryan

I can't speak for Galway - But I would choose Cork over Limerick. Email me directly and I can put you in touch with a few people in their 20's from all three places and you can try to ask them directly. <BR> <BR>

Ryan, <BR>As an Irish person living in Ireland at the moment I would suggest that you talk to the student officer in the student's union in each university. Second remember rents are high in all three cities with Galway at the top, thirdly what area are you considering studying ? All 3 universities have different focuses. Ryan, <BR> <BR>My friend studied in Galway two years ago and loved it. She stayed about 20 min walking distance to the school and paid what the others students considered expensive-280$ a month. (She rented a house with other students). I just returned from Galway on vacation and each day I walked around I was so jealous that my friend got to spend every day for six months there. Just back from Ireland. Though I'm a little older than you are, I'd vote for Galway area. It would be a great base from which to see the country. The Connemara area to the west of Galway City was really beautiful and we also enjoyed the drive north of there through Westport and up to Donegal. Have fun. Wish I was in your shoes!

Galway is a very young city--lots of students, so there's a good music and arts scene as well. Okay, and maybe one or two pubs. It would be a great place to study.

&lt;sigh&gt; So it appears that all recommendations point against where it is most likely I'll be going... I'm an Aerospace Engineering student, and thust the University of Limerick appears to be the best bet. Also, being as late in the game as I am, the more popular universities (read Galway and Cork) are pretty much closed to new applicants. Further, it seems that the international study program at Limerick is better, in that there are fewer international students, and those that are there are not grouped together (as they are at Galway). Therefore, it looks like I'm going to head to Limerick. I'll be there for eight months, and perhaps a year, if I can come up with the money. Anyway, does anyone have any specific recommendations for things that I'd regret if I didn't plan on doing? Or things I should bring? Or does anyone know someone in the area that I learn a bit more about the region from? <BR> <BR>Thanks! <BR> <BR>-Joel
