Where in Europe do you want your ashes spread?
If you could pick any spot in Europe (on land or sea), where would you like your ashes spread?

I have already instructed my wife to scatter my ashes off of the walking bridge overlooking Neuschwanstein in Germany. I figure I'll float dwon to the water and then float past the castle into the lake there. Not a bad final resting place IMHO.

Cheers, the turnip

Not actually in Europe - but very much influenced by it. I've requested that my ashes be mixed with cement and made into a Celtic cross. I have a photo of one I saw near Doolin that I want replicated. I guess the family can do what they want with the actual cross....

I've instructed to have my ashes sent into space, that way I can continue to travel forever and not only visit Europe but new Planets etc.
Good answer, Art. I can't say where I want my ashes spread, as I haven't traveled to enough places yet to make a decision. My mothers' husband said he would like his ashes spread in Bloomingdales so my mother will visit him often.

i gave instructions to my lifepartner (i live in the chianti nearby florence) and i want to have my ash spread from the ferrie going from livorno to olbia/sardegna, during nighttime into the mediterranian sea. i once was almost killed in the ocean and there is where i want to be when my body is empty and i'm on my way to the "otherland" on my personal rainbow.

tanti saluti

christina

The high open mountain meadow on the way into the small village of Galichnik, Macedonia.

I have left written instructions to have a close friend scatter my ashes into the caldera on Santorini. It's not so much that I want my ashes there as it is to get my friend to visit Santorini. He's never been to Europe.

In the primroses around the Eiffel Tower!

My husband and I had both said we wanted our ashes tossed from the Cliffs of Moher, but I really like Stacey's Celtic cross idea . . . What an interesting question!

wonderful question; on our first trip to Europe, 31 years ago, as we ate Ristorante Tre Scalini's glorious chocolate tartufo in front of the Bernini fountain in the Piazza Navonna, Rome, I begged my husband to remember to come back with my ashes and sprinkle them strategically to float into some chocolate and then land in the fountain. At this stage of life, I'd rather sprinkle them myself!

Off the edge of the cliff when you get off the Manlichen tram high above Wengen.

A tie between two places: the beautiful -- and beautifully-named -- Baie des Anges (Bay of the Angels) on the Côte d'Azur, or the romantic pool in front of the Medici Fountain in the Luxembourg Gardens in Paris.

How about on the slopes of Mt. Etna, giving literal meaning to "ashes to ashes..."? Some volcano-watchers predict there will be a catastrophic volcanic explosion in the greater Etna/Vesuvius/Stromboli area with the first half of this century, in which case, anything on Etna will spread far and wide.

I just told my mom to spread my ashes underneath the giant rhododendrons at Muckross House outside Killarney, Ireland. In 1998, we walked around underneath them while the flowers were in full bloom ... lots of Tolkein-esque mossy branches and tree trunks. And, a very beautiful and peaceful place (not that my ashes will care).

Sprinkle me liberally around the first-class section of any international flight, as that's the only way I'll ever get there.
Thank you Cindy for making me laugh because I was about to cry from reading all the beautiful entries here.

Now I just have to think of a place...

My husband has often stated... after a few pints, that he'd like his ashes scattered in front of the Guinness Brewery in Dublin...
Is everybody on Fodor's being cremated??? What is this with the ashes? Isn't anyone going the old, body/coffin route??

Frankly, I never was up for that sort of thing but if I was my favorite site would be sprinkled from on top of that magnificent tram which overlooks Grindelwald!! I could fertilize that fantastic valley and get to listen to those lovely cowbells as I drift over them. Hmmmmm....maybe I need to rethink my burial plans!<g

Interesting question! My wish is to have my ashes scattered over the red cliffs in Roussillon, France. To be part of those sweeping fields of red poppies....ahhhh....eternal peace.
