Paris in March, there is nothing like seeing it snow on the Effel tower. On my recent tour Salzburg was a my favorite, Cologne made me remember my roots. Munich was painful and moving planning on Spain in September and backpacking England, Ireland and Scottland in Dec.

Gavin - any chance you'd done any notes you were thinking of posting anywhere about your Ethiopia experience? (yes, that was an encouraging nudge) Always interested to hear about those places nearest the top of my wish list.

To the original question: No, we didn't get any further than NYC in 2005. Work work work. But we were in Romania and Hungary in very late 2004 - so, almost! And we're leaving next week for Cambodia and Thailand, but that doesn't count as it's not Europe. We're thinking about Russia though and that could happen late '06. Too soon for us to make solid plans that far out I think!

Father daughter trip to Paris, Central Switzerland & NYC in April. New York was the highlight of the trip for my daughter as it was her first trip to NYC. She convinced me to return to NYC for our July 4th family trip.

My wife & I had a great trip to Northern Italy with friends in May & June. It was our 4th visit to the area. We visited the smaller towns that we missed in past trips.

We cancelled our trip to London in September and ended up returning to East Germany & Holland at the last minute.

We vacationed on the islands of Singapore, Java & Bali last November. The trip surpassed our low expectations that my son & I are planning to visit Malaysia next Spring.

Our daughter is invited to play soccer in Holland in the early summer of 2006 so we will probably be heading there again.

We are looking forward to make our 4th visit to Provence in September. I'm still trying to figure out time to slip into Germany sometime in 2006.

March 05: 5 nights in Paris

July 05: 11 nights in Paris, 5 nights in London (first time)

March 06: 6 nights in Paris

July 06: 4 nights Vienna and 4 nights Prague (never been to either). Would love to try and fit Paris in there somehow, the logistics give me a headache.

Six nights in Rome, one night in Siena, five nights in Venice. Oh, that gelato...Oh, that country!

Heading to Benelux, Germany and the Czech Republic in April (we might stop in on Austria, too).

April 2005 - Angers, France, for 1 week, with daytrips to Saumur, Nantes, Clisson, Langeais and Le Mans, all interesting, some truly wonderful. Angers is superb. Then weekend in Paris for 3 days, started badly with a disappointing hotel but then moved to another one and it turned out great.
October 2005 - one week in Verona, with trips to Mantova, Trento and Vicenza, absolutely fabulous trip. Then 5 days France, with Paris and Dijon. Maybe the best trip I've taken so far, Italy-France is the perfect combination, France feels like home.

2006:
March - 1 week in Rome for the first time.
October - Portugal for the first time, for 7-10 days.
Also, hoping to go to France in June, with 1 week in either Bourges or Nancy + daytrips and an opera premiere in Paris for the last night.
Very exciting!

Summer 2005 - Italy, Venice, Castelrotto, Montepulciano, Rome and lots of exploring in between and 3 days in London all with my husband and 2 kids.

Probably no visit to Europe in 06, but who knows I may do a last minute trip for a long weekend with friends.

Tossing around Greece maybe for 07.

March 2006 -- somewhere in Central America

Paris. Went to see the end of the Tour de France. I've been a big Lance Armstrong fan for years and just wanted to see him finish his last race.

Our big 2005 trip was our Italian honeymoon- more than worth it, of course! But aside from being a honeymoon, it was a really wonderful trip...we learned the true benefits of Slow Travel by renting an apartment in Montepulciano for a week. Heaven!

In 2006, we are planning to go to Ireland in April. That will be the only overseas vacation for us this year, so I hope it's a good one!

Does anyone on this site work and if so what kind of a job do you have that affords you to take all that time off? Speaking of affords, how can you afford these trips several times a year? I am not being catty, just very curious. Maybe you could give me a few pointer. Thanks!

In March (though not European travel), went to New Zealand. The first 9 days was touring the South Island. The second week was outside Auckland on a Habitat for Humanity Blitz Build of 5 houses. Completely worth it!

In October, went for 9 days to Rome, which was my first visit, and it was indescribably beyond expectations (and those were high).

For 2006, am heading to Spain for 2.5 weeks in May, then Scotland for 2.5 weeks in the beginning of September. Both, I'm positive, will be more than worth it.

Happy, safe travels to everyone for 2006!

In May we traveled to Barcelona, Paris, Nice, Monoco and London! Yes it was worth every penny (I mean Euro). We just got back from Christmas in Tokyo (not Europe I know). Now I want to add Asia to my travel list and my life is not long enough for it all! We already have tickets for Switzerland and Italy (again) in May. I can't think of a better thing to spend my time or money on. If I could just figure out how to stop working and travel. Any one have any ideas on this?

Last June we traveled( my daughter and my teen grandaughter) to Rome,Pescara, Florence, Siena, Venice, Nice, Montecarlo, Avignon, Uzes and Paris.

This year I dont have my traveling companions with me..It is going to be very strange to once again traveling Solo to Europe.
Also , once again I am going back to Italy and France ..With the difference that I still dont have a definite itinerary yet.

The only sure thing will be Rome, Pescara, Avignon and Mejannes Le Clap near Uzes, and of course Paris because I will depart from there.

My sister and I may spend 2 weeks in Spain, but this is still up in the air.

We, family of 8, went all over Ireland in May/june 2005 for 2 weeks and a month later our annual trip to the keys with 25 or so family and friends.

In 2006 we are going to Italy for 2 weeks in May/June and of course the keys in July.

I would love to go to Europe in 2007 but I think I may go to California and possibly if I am lucky Hawaii to visit friends. We will make a larger family visit to England/Scotland in 2008.

We went to London in February with all three of our adult daughters and stayed in a great apartment in Covent Garden. England was having a Siberian cold snap while we were there and I thought my bones would freeze but we had a wonderful time. Walked all over London. Took in all the touristy attractions but also went to a moving Solemn High Mass at Westminster Cathedral and the Brompton Oratory. Went to a Vivaldi and Bach concert at St. Martin in the Fields. We were fortunate to have an MP give us a tour of Parliament. Was it worth it? Absolutely!
In Nov. I went on my second trip to Rome. Went to a papal audience and a papal Mass. Toured many of the beautiful churches. Went up into the mountains to the medieval town of Anagni. This second trip was even better than the first and the weather was beautiful except for one day of rain.
2006 we have no plans to go to Europe. Going hiking in Quebec.

In reply to Madison- both my husband and I work. He has been with his company for many years so he has lots of vacation time. I work my job on a per-diem basis which means I work when I want and take off when I want. We are definitely not rich. Our house is in need of many repairs but I am infected with the travel bug. I found that by going ahead and booking a trip and making a deposit it forces me to save to pay the balance. I don't spend our money on frivolous stuff-like house repairs. LOL!
