where from Athens

Have about a week after arriving at Athens after a cruise, are there recommendations of
best places to go from there 5-7 days?

A hop to Turkey? Other places in Greece?

A hop to Morocco, Tunisia?

It will, alas, be November 4th when island travel seems to be limited.

Thanks, Tania

Hi, should I have given this a different title, have not heard from anyone. Does anyone have suggestions?
Thanks

I will just take a stab at why no one has responded. Your question is too vague and too broad. Most poeple would probably not consider Morocco or Tunisia to be a hop away from Athens. It is difficult to respond when you do not say what you are interested in..I can tell you that "yes, Morocco and Tunisia are both fascinating countries" and that I personally found them each worth at least 7 days (I stayed 2 weeks in Tunisia and have been to Morocco twice for a week each time) but that information is not really going to be helpful if I have no idea what you want to do or how you want to spend your time.

The most logical answer without knowing anything about your interests is to tell you to go to Turkey and spend a few days in Istanbul and then fly to Cappadocia. Why don't you look into that and see if it appeals to you.

You could go to Rhodes or Crete, rent a car and explore.

You could do Istanbul. You need at least 4 days to appreciate that great city--one of my favourites. You won't be bored.

Have you read my trip report on Istanbul?

Rome would be an easy hop, as would Istanbul. I think the idea of exploring Crete is also a very good suggestion, even in November. One strategy might be to look at where Aegean Airlines flies. This airline can have exceptionally good rates to many cities in Europe from Athens, and you could choose based on where you could get to easily.

While I love Morocco, it's a bit out of the way for me, at least from Athens. I'd stick to places you can fly to and from easily and quickly to maximize your experience and limit your travel time.

I'd also recommend either Egypt, Israel, or Jordan over Morocco.

I loved the town of Napleon, a little fishing village that is beautiful.

Santorini is heavenly. I personally did not care for Mikonos. Corrinth was interesting as was viewing the canal.

There are wonderful sites in Greece on the Peloponnese such as Mycenae, Epidaurus and Olympia. On the mainland, Delphi and Meteora. I took a trip to Athens for several days and a four day tour to the other sites I mentioned, and this is my trip report, if you are interested:

A day trip trip to Delphi or Corinth is good, also the Isle of Rhodes is wonderful. Also, there is enought to see in Athens for a couple of weeks. Just walk around and explore -
