Where does the queue start for the Vatican?

Okay guys, may seem a stupid question for those of you in the know, but I'm not sure where the actual queue starts for the Vatican. Can anyone tell me exactly where I need to go? I had thought the queue starts somewhere in St Peters Square, but I don't think this is correct.

If you're talking about the Vatican Museum, the line goes from its door on its North Door, and then winds east along the wall and then down south towards St. Peter's.

So, while the official Metro stop is Cipro, unless you go super early, you should get off one stop sooner at Ottaviano, and walk south towards the Vatican from there.

I remember lining up at the bottom of the steps of St. Peter's to pass the inspection of the fashion police. And these guys are dead serious, honey; they're fiercer than Fern Mallis during fashion week in Bryant Park. Don't you dare wear your Gaultier bustier.

The Vatican is a city state within the city of Rome.

The Vatican Museums are an important but relatively small part of the Vatican. The main entrance is on Viale Vaticano.

St. Peter's Basilica is, by many, considered the most important point of interest in the Vatican that is accessible to tourists. It is entered through Piazza San Pietro or St. Peter's Square. There is frequently a long line for security.

I was in Rome two weeks ago and went to the Vatican right away because I had heard that the lines can be very long. I got there at 9 AM and was in St. Peter's at 9:05 AM - no problem at all. As a result of increased security, you now have to go through security machines (just like the airport). As you face the front of St. Peter's, the security machines are on your right. If you are at the center of the Square, the machines are at 2 o'clock. That is where the lines begin. Once you get there, you will have no problem finding the line.

Hi

Check out my interactive Rome Google map on http://gardkarlsen.com/rome_italy_map.htm . I think we queued up more or less from the piazza near the marker that I have posted on the map and around the corner to the museum,
