Hi all,
I was born in Sydney, New South Wales,Australia, have lived in Australia's Northern Territory and our island state of Tasmania but am now happily settled in the beautiful Blue Mountains, about 70 kilometres west of Sydney, where the weather is gorgeous at the moment. It is midwinter, but the sky is blue and the sun is bright.

Born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota. Spent on year in Eugene, Oregon and have been living in Seattle since 1979.

Many people only think Scandinavians when the hear Minnesota -- and, to be sure, there are plenty there -- but, interestingly, Minnesota also has quite a bit of French influence, due, in large part, to the French and French-Canadian voyageurs who explored that area. The state motto of Minnesota is French, the very beautiful "L'Etoile du Nord" (The Star of the North) and four main streets in downtown Minneapolis all have French names: Hennepin (after Father Louis Hennepin; Minneapolis is also in Hennepin County), Nicollet (after Jean Nicollet, an explorer, translator, and negotiator born in Normandy), LaSalle (after French explorer Robert de la Salle), and Marquette (after French missionary and explorer Jacques Marquette).

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pa, after marrying moved to Orlando, Fl, then Dallas,Tx, back to Pgh, then to southfield, MI, then we decided we'd had enough of cold weather and snow after living in South and west for so long and moved back to Maitland,Fl, a suburb of Orlando. This is much more of a multi-cultural group than I had thought, and so much the better!

I'm in Alexandria, VA, 9-10 months of the year, and the rest in the Dordogne. Hoping to reverse that equation in the not too distant future.
|
Hi Mimi, I was born in a small town in Leicestershire but now live, (and have done for the past 30 years), in Hampshire about eight miles from Winchester and close to the New Forest, a lovely part of England.
|
Born and raised in rural Huntingdon, Pa., school and work in Lancaster, Pa, New York City, married, school and work in Philly, then to Danville, Pa., Virginia Beach, Va. and now back to central Pa. Judy

Mimi, great post!! I posted something similar a few months back called: "What do you do for a living and how much vacation/holiday time do you get?" I also got some great replies. As for me.., born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. Moved around to Orlando, FL, San Francisco, CA, New York, NY and now back in Philadelphia, PA. Funny how we end up back where we started a lot of times.
|
Danny, not all of us move back. I wouldn't move back to the western NY area for anything in the world. Beautiful in spring, summer and fall, but they can keep that snow and cold in winter! :-0
I live in Fairview Heights in southwestern Illinois, about 15 miles from St. Louis. When I travel I always say I'm from St. Louis, because if you mention Illinois, everyone assumes you live near Chicago (it's 260 miles from me). I've been to London more times than I've been to Chicago!
|
Joanne,
No, that's Michigan! (We're in "orange barrel", or non-construction season right now!)
BC
