Where did you want to stay longer?

We have heard from those who couldn't wait to leave Las Vegas, Florence, Rome, a guest house, Mexico and numerous other travel spots.

Where do you wish you had a chance to spend more time?

I don't think I've been to a single place in Europe where I wouldn't want to spend more time. (Okay, I have to admit that Gothenburg and Malmo in Sweden are almost exceptions, but I know I didn't see everything of interest that I could have, and if I went back, I would enjoy them.)

However, the places I most desperately want to spend more time in are Venice (I've previously stayed 4 nights) and Rome (previously 5 nights), more than any other places I've been.

Hi

My wife and I went to the Maldives a couple of years back and we stayed a bit over a week...I think it would have been great to stay longer there :-) . Check out the pictures in my trip report http://gardkarlsen.com/sun_island_index.htm and you will understand why.

We went to Rome last year and stayed there about 6 days. There is a lot to see and do in the eternal city and I would like to go back there. I think we got to cover the basics (see the trip report http://gardkarlsen.com/rome_italy.htm) but there is still more to see :-)

Regards

Spent only two nights in Venice on first trip to Italy--was initlally put off by the scene dropping off the rental car at the massive parking garage, dealing with luggage (carry on) on the Vaporetto after fending off water taxi drivers, and didn't "get it" about Venice until second day.

Went back last year for a week; going back this year for a week in June and a week in September!

Had I not been meeting my mother (who flew in from the States for a vacation) in Barcelona, I never would have left Morocco. I was so happy in Marrakech and just loved it there. I spent my last day looking for academic programs and trying to find a way to get a visa.

That is also happening to me right now in Boston and I have realized that I fall in love with places so easily that I hate to cut the strings. Alas, my brother's birthday is in Dallas tomorrow, so I must head down. Eventually, the only thing that is going to make me decide to stay in one place is love of a person or work, and since my current job involves me trotting the globe, I am holding out for the former.

I just cannot resist these threads. I wish I could stay a month in the Lavaux region of Swiss Lac Leman and a month at the Swiss end of Lago Maggiore (in Gerra-Gambarogno). And if I were not afraid to drive in the UK, I'd add another month in Monkton Farleigh, Wiltshire. Ahh. Thanks for the five-minute fantasy. J.

With a few exceptions I could stay longer almost anywhere we've visited but if I had to choose I'd say Lake Como, Venice .

I'd definitely love to spend more time in Perthshire, Scotland. But if I could, I'd stay forever in Hallstatt, Austria. It's my all time favorite place!

Well the longest I have stayed in Rome was a bit over 2 weeks but even than I really didn't want to leave (although I wanted to travel to other areas of Italy). I would love to spend a couple of months in Rome just savoring everything this fantastic city has to offer.

I'm going to be greedy and say the entire continent of Europe. But I wouldn't mind spending extra time in Florence, Venice, Rome or London.

I'm still a little greedy, aren't I? :$

LoveItaly Mar 4th, 2006 03:43 PM

mcnyc LOL. Sometimes feeling greedy is fun. I found myself mentally trying to figure out how much money two months in Rome would cost..oh well..it is fun to dream!

mcnyc Mar 4th, 2006 08:27 PM

I can't help myself. For me, traveling is my candy store. But since we're dreaming with NYerr, why not dream big?

I'm quite the dreamer when it comes to traveling. :D

That's why I keep going back to places and resist the temptation to try new ones. We are now going to Greece for the first time and I just know that each of islands we are planning on seeing may tempt us to return and stay longer.

And reading these posts gives me ideas for coming trips, too.

And Kual Lumpur, spent only 2 days there, mostly shopping, and I thought it was a very nice city, lively . Would stay there for 3 more days at least to visit it and do a day trip to Melaka.
And 2 nights at the Mandarim Oriental was also too short... Loved this hotel! :)
