Dinner cruise on the Seine
My wife and I will be in Paris for 6 days(a surprise, impromtu birthday celebration for her), and I would like to plan a romantic dinner cruise on the Seine. Should I book with Bateaux Mouches, or with one of the other companies? I prefer a more elegant experience(violins, champagne, etc.)

Our one experience was the same as desertduds reported--beautiful sights, bad food. Sigh. Yet I would LOVE to do a dinner cruise along the Seine if a good meal was included--and so would lots of others (done right, I bet even some French would go for it). Aren't there ANY enterprising Frenchmen/women out there with a boat who could fill this niche??!! We don't need Michelin star food (although it would be nice), just a good meal with good service...

Even though I used the dinner cruise on the Seine as an example on another thread (it's too complicated to repeat here), I agree with everybody else. It wasn't the very average food that disturbed me, it was that I missed so many of the sights while eating dinner. I agree that you should do the cruise and dine elsewhere, so that you can enjoy both activities without distraction or disappointment.

But you didn't do the Yachts de Paris cruise..which is actually quite wonderful. We did it a few years ago with French friends, one of whom is a food and wine critic for several publications and also works wit one of the champagne houses, and it is an experience we were just talking about earlier today with the other friends that joined us.
