Whoa, thank you for all the replies.I didn't really expect all these.

I agree some of the replies. We shouldn't judge people by how they look, how they live and how they spend their money as long as they don't harm the society. Let the people live their lifes and make their choices.

Thanks again for all the useful information. I still think Fodor's is the best source to get help for traveling.

Fodors is a great site, but where are the Mucky posts? And the relevant responses? Amazing how Big Brother can act so quickly on conversation, but ignore threads with obvious advertising for weeks...hmm..let's see how long THIS one stays up...

I am glad that the post was cleaned up and not deleted altogether...

LoveItaly Mar 4th, 2006 06:41 PM

Me too Scarlett! And lynnts, I hope that you are able to get the Birkin bag you desire. We all have special items we want..and how wonderful when our wish comes true.

daisy58 Mar 4th, 2006 10:22 PM

me too! where are the contraversial Mucky posts! A little drama could spice things up! I feel like I am on the "other end" of a phone conversation! At any rate, I love bags, tho could not afford a pricey european original, but I do spend, in many peoples opinions, a boatload of $$
on international travel, so it truly depends on what is important to you. Personally, I love to travel, and do not want my last thought on this earth to be a list of "I wish I had seen...."
So, I travel, and buy (with the exception of Coach) knockoffs of a particular quality. Do not torch lynnts1, we all have our vices, or we would not be at this site! And everyone, no matter what their financial situation is, deserves a treat..and to those of you who disagree, unless your travels are for unicef or the christian childrens fund,
or the peace corps, and I am thinking they are not, leave her alone. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone....

lynnts1-BTW--get the cutest bag you can find!(:)

Mucky Mar 4th, 2006 11:19 PM

I am still here Big Brother !!
I apologise to all those American Citizens that are not pretentious and like me look upon the world as a place that we are allowed to exist for just a short time.
The way we as humans are behaving, it will be a miracle if we have a world to travel within a few generations from now.

I hope you all find what you are looking for in the bag shops.

The title of this post reminded me of an old friend from college who married a Monagasque and had to endure the culture shocks of living in Monte Carlo. Anyway, she took my wife & I to the Hermes store after lunch and that's the first time I ever heard of the BIRKIN bag as a status symbol. I assumed it's named after the sexy Jane Birkin, though the bag doesn't look sexy at all.

If you're still around Lynnts1: The Hermes store in Monte Carlo always stocks a few though not in all colors or sizes. Another sure thing,as my friend explained to us then, you'll pay the highest price in Monte Carlo as the added tax is 20 % to make up for 0% income tax in Monaco. Well at least you don't have to wait 6 years! Unbeliveable!

Hi everyone. I am new to the site. Anyway, I am glad to see this information here because I wanted to know where to get a birkin as well. I just bought a kelly, I'm actually picking it up on Tuesday for my birthday from the boutique in Atlanta. I will contact the store in Paris and see what they say. At any rate, I would like to say that I agree with those on here who say that whatever you choose to spend your money on is your business. And it is equally true that giving to charity and buying quality items are not mutually exclusive.

I am still here Big Brother !!

There was a Sex in the City episode all about this...!

Something well in excess of 90% of the world's population think that spending money to go to another continent on vacation is a useless extravagance.

So extravagance is in the eye of the beholder.

p.s. "Sharing the wealth with the less fortunate" is a reformulation of the collectivist conceit "from each according to his ability, to each according to his need" - which the capitalist west resisted by force of arms for 40 years.

On that 20% value added tax (VAT), you'll get it back when you leave the country if you get the shop to fill out the proper form. But then you'll have to list it on the incoming U.S. customs form and pay duty on it.

cigalechanta May 21st, 2006 09:16 AM

I read that if you are caught in Paris with a fake, you will be heavily fined.
Evidently, they have trained people at customs that can spot them.

Lusiana_Santoso Nov 27th, 2011 09:25 PM

Hello..I want to buy hermes birkin original and authentic complete with original padlock, id numbet and the certificate without having to wait 1/2 years, please help me where hermes stores can I contact??

latedaytraveler Nov 28th, 2011 03:30 AM

Obviously, the original post is almost six years old.

According to Wikipedia, current prices for these Hermes Birken bags run between $9,000 - $12,000! No wonder I have never heard of them before....

Dayle Nov 28th, 2011 05:25 PM

Just think of all the hungry children in the world that amount of money could feed!

annw Dec 3rd, 2011 07:23 PM

I hear Goyard is the new it bag, but I have no idea what they cost.

Nutella Dec 4th, 2011 09:01 AM

LOL just from reading the title of this post, I knew where the discussion would go :)

Nonconformist Dec 4th, 2011 09:32 AM

Presumably the OP has now reached the top of the waiting list ;) I hope it was worth it.
