When my daughter and I were in Germany, she fell in love with apfelschorle (apple juice and club soda). I'd like to get some for her for a Christmas present (would prefer to buy some rather than make my own). Do you know of any sources for apfelschorle in the U.S. that could ship in time to get here for Christmas? Thanks for your help.

It's a start!!! Unfortunately, the minimum order is $25, which I'm happy to do. However, that would be 25 bottles of apfelschorle, and that exceeds their maximum shipping amount of the product. Any other ideas?

I have made my own by simply mixing seltzer/club soda with apple juice roughly 50:50.

Buy sparkling water and apple juice (100% pure juice, no diluted and/or artificially sweetened stuff, don't know if that's available in the US). Mix, not exactly 50:50, but a little more juice than water. I always mix my own since it tastes better than the Apfelschorle from the bottle.

Frankly, when I googled your request I mostly came up with recipes. My German husband would make it himself before he'd buy it in a bottle. sigh...he wants to start making his own wine too...

Thanks for all your responses. The Germandeli.com is now out of apfelschorle completely!! Yes, I could make my own, but it would have more of an impact as a Christmas present if it was bought and bottled commercially. Yes, I confess to being an indulgent parent. Please keep the suggestions coming.

I'd second the suggestion for Costco's World Market. I find all sorts my favorite European vacation foods and beverages there.

I actually think most Germans make apfelschorle by mixing apple juice with sparkling mineral water, although you CAN buy it bottled.

The closest you can get in America would be Martinelli's sparkling cider. We have a friend who moved from Germany to the U.S. last year who loves apfelschorle and we told him to look for Martinelli's.

when i lived and worked in germany, i never saw anybody drink it pre-mixed. the company provided both the juice and water (god-given right in germany) and both bottles sat on all the desks, to be mixed in an exact concentration (forgot what it was).

it was explained to me that this specific concentration is healthiest because it mimics the exact concentration of sugar in the blood (or some silly thing like this).

When I lived in Saudi Arabia, I routinely bought bottled Appletise, which is sparkling apple juice - loved it!

Restaurants mixed their own and called it "Saudi Champagne" (at least they had a sense of humor about the whole forbidden alcohol thing).

Just did a search and found that it's now called Appletiser, it's produced in South Africa, but sold world wide.

I've never had apfelschorle, (although I've been to Germany several times - guess I missed it), but Appletiser sounds very similar.

Also pulled up loads of possibilities when I did a search for sparkling apple juice.

We have always bought the Martinelli's Sparkling Cider that comes in "champagne" type bottles for the younger family members and they love it. I am not familar with apfelschorle but I would suggest that you look in your supermarket for the Martinelli. I noticed our supermarkets now have it in that we are in the holiday season. Best wishes.

I's recommend Martinelli's as well. I ordered apfelschorle in Germany and it was very similar to Martinelli's sparkling cider.

Alternatively, get Martinelli's regular cider (or any quality cider) and mix with club soda.

I know that this wont have the Christmas present impact you are looking for, but it is a good general substitute.

And just a little correction to avoid possible confusion - Cost Plus World Market, not Costco World Market

Apfelschorle is made with sparkling mineral water, not club soda. Any of the carbonated waters will do and pure apple juice over concentrated if possible. I use Pelligrino to make my own but I've never looked for it in specialty stores.

I support the idea of seeing it on the shelves of stores as much as possible. I am never satisfied with the beverages for most of them are two sweet.

Even six years later, you can still buy sparkling water and fruit juice (not limited to apple - most kinds of pure unsweetened juice are great for Schorle) and mix your own...
