Where can I buy an ice bag ?
 

This may seem like a trivial question but I keep seeing an "ice bag" on American TV shows - you know the waterproof bag with a screwtop that you use for headaches or sprains. Every time I visit the States people look at me as if I'm nuts when I ask for them in places like Walmart. It has become a bit of joke with my husband - when they pop up on TV I scream -"Look - there's one - I'm not mad!". I live in Ireland so if you know of any closer to home or on the internet please advise.

Could it be that demand for the old- fashioned ice bags has vanished now that every household has heavy zip-lock bags that will serve the purpose, but the movie studios still have a pile of them in their props departments?

Go over to the USA forum and ask, they will know. I have seen them at Savon and at regular drug stores in the USA.

A few months agom, I saw icebags at Restoration Hardware, an upscale chain usually found in shopping malls.

I've seen it sold in the Vermont country store mail order catalogue. I may also have some that I found when cleaning out my parents' house after they died. I'm not sure whether I saved them, but if I did save more than one, maybe I could send you one for the cost of postage if you really want it.

Ice bags are disappearing because a bag of frozen peas serves the very same purpose but is more flexible, and you can eat them after you have fixed your boo-boo. If you still want one, you should probably ask in the pharmacy department.

You can get ice bags in Walgreens and CVS, and probably CVS. There are some new ones available, that you will find that actually have a chemical in them, so you don't need to add ice, and they are reusable (I have one for my wrist when my tendonitis acts up). All you do is throw the bag in the freezer to chill it. I actually have one with Velcro straps, that are apart of the bag, and wrap around the wrist, knee, etc. I would check in the area in the pharmacy where there are splints and Ace bandages.

Nichola, I know what you are talking about. My husband suffers from migraine headaches and we take one with us when we travel. I found his at Walgreen's here in the States.
