Where can DD catch a train back to London after Tintagel?

Hi again, nearly time to go. We are spending a couple of days in Dartmoor National Park with our DD & her boyfriend. On the Monday (bank holiday) we will go to Tintagel Castle, after which DD will need to get a train back to London. Any suggestions what town she could get the train from? We'd like to stay over that way that night, maybe Port Isaac or similar so don't want to back track to much.

any thoughts?

Probably Bodmin. Be sure to check if the route is running as normal -- no works or closures.

hi aussie,

a train? on bank holiday Monday? try www.thetrainline.com for timetables, but be careful to put in the exact date as services are often reduced on bank holidays.

you are at least in luck with your nearest station, which is Bodmin Parkway, and which is on the direct line to London Paddington. parts of the line just before you get to Plymouth and between Plymouth and Exeter are stunning - your DD ought to try to sit on the right of the train facing forward for the best views.

after dropping her off, you could head back to the north coast - either Port Isaac or what about Padstow? - some great restaurants there now. alternatively, the south coast is about the same distance from Bodmin, and you are within striking distance of my favourite, Fowey.

do come back if you'd like any more help!

Thanks to both of you, I will forward to DD and have her check out the timetable.

Remember annhig, we did go to Padstow last time (all things Rick Stein), maybe Fowey this time?

I'm sure I'll be back to ask more.
