Granada is definitely not a day trip from Seville. Also to really appreciate the Alhambra, see it both during the day and at night. Best to stay two nights in Granada.
Four days (5 nights) should be plenty for Barcelona, so a day and night from there would be great for Granada. You could fly from Barcelona to Granada, then take train, car or bus to Seville. Looks like a very relaxed trip. Nice. |
I never recommend less than 2 nights in Granada for anyone who wants to see the Alhambra. I recommend a day-time visit, starting as early as you find reasonable. During the day, you can visit the entire Alhambra, but you will do so with MANY others, so be prepared for crowds. (FWIW, the audio guide met my needs.) In the evening, you can visit the magnificent Nasrid Palace (only) with just a few other visitors. I found it absolutely magical! Since I was there, I believe the Alhambra also offers evening visits to the Generalife, and if I had the chance, I would snag one of those reservations, too! Do be aware that advance reservations for the Alhambra are critical.
Although many people visit Cordoba as a day trip from Sevilla, I thought it worth 2 full days. Even if you leave it as a day trip, I agree that you might consider adding time to Sevilla. Much as I enjoyed Bilbao and San Sebastian, you might consider leaving them for another trip so you can add time for Granada and give yourselves more time for Cordoba and Sevilla. You might even want another day in Barcelona, since you'll likely "lose" the first day to jet lag. Or add a day to Paris to give yourselves time for a day trip or two. Just a thought! |
You have to take 2 nights from somewhere (Barcelona/Paris) and add to Granada. After that you will have a near perfect itinerary!

Thanks all! Here's a revised itinerary:
How many nights would you recommend for each place? I'm not sure about the order yet because I'm not sure which airport we're going to fly home from, but I'd like to keep San Sebastian at the beginning of our trip for better weather. I like the idea of going north -> south for better weather also, and I also like the order of big city, small city, etc. that I have now. 6 nights Paris 3 nights San Sebastian 6 nights Barcelona 6 nights Seville 2 nights Granada Day 0: Depart Leave US (JFK, Boston, or Hartford) Day 1: Arrive Paris Day 2 Paris Day 3 Paris Day 4 Paris Day 5 Paris Day 6 Paris Day 7 fly Paris -> San Sebastian (Bilbao) 5 hr 30 min Day 8 San Sebastian Day 9 San Sebastian Day 10 San Sebastian -> Barcelona 3 hr 50 min Day 11 Barcelona Day 12 Barcelona Day 13 Barcelona Day 14 Barcelona Day 15 Barcelona Day 16 Barcelona -> Seville fly 4 hrs Day 17 Seville Day 18 Seville Day 19 Seville Day 20 Seville Day 21 Seville Day 22 Sevilla -> Granada train 3 hrs Day 23 Granada Day 24 Granada -> home |
Also, any recommendations for day trips from Paris? I'd like to see more of France than just one city
|
Chartres. Nancy. Strasbourg.
|
I'd take a night from Barcelona and add it to San Sebastian. There's so much to see and eat in Basque Country.
|
You can eat very well in Barcelona too. Personally, I found San Sebastian over-hyped, but I might have liked it better if I had been on my honeymoon.
|
I just learned that an audioguide may no longer be available at the Alhambra, and since I recommended it above, I wanted to let you know. If so, your other options should include carrying a guidebook or two with you (hard copy or e-book), picking up a printed guide while there, or hiring a guide.

Here is my trip report (with hundreds of photos) from our spring 2015 trip. We hit Barcelona, Granada, Sevilla, Cordoba, Toledo and Madrid. Grab some wine. It should give you plenty of ideas. Also agree you need a couple of days in Granada, although I thought the day tour of the Alhambra was enough...night tour was fine, but didn't add that much in my opinion.
Alcazar in Sevilla and Mezquita in Cordoba are both tremendous visits. Toledo was our favorite town, but we liked them all. Madrid was quite a surprise as to how much we enjoyed it...Our favorite sight in Barcelona (among many) was Hospital de Santa Creu i de Sant Pau. Have a wonderful trip. http://travelswithmaitaitom.com/spain-2015/ |
