Ah yes, Ingo. That lift (elevator, lol!) up to Hammetschwand was a real jaw-dropper and hold onto your stomach ride!

Good tips about not taking the cogwheel at Zugspitze. Tunnels, bah humbug! I prefer the death-defying drops (cringing when typing).

I don't remember the tunnel on the Zugspitz train ride being all that long---nothing like the Jungfraubahn tunnel through the Eiger.

We went up by train and down by cablecar to the Eibsee---definitely a thrill!

I haven't been on too many funiculars, but I adore them! My favorite so far is the one in Lugano leaving from Cassarate to Monte Bre. It's about 925 M at the top, so it's quite a ride.

For the record, at the Zugspitz we also did the cog wheel train up and the lift down. More for the experience of two different rides. We enjoyed both.
